as phenolic. I have been doing a search on phenolic material and I keep getting referenced to garolite

 

Phenolic is formally the name of the resin that's used to make the materials that we commonly refer to as "phenolic", which are fiber(paper or fabric) reinforced phenolic resins. Garolite is a trade name for these materials

There are lots of different grades/types of them with differenct properties. It's pretty easy to work with but it stinks bad(I use a snorkel over the milling table) and it does dull tools.
