Hola, as you may have noticed from the title I'm a newb, but I've got a dilema.
I am currently driving a V6 stang , and I post over at the corral, but I've been in love with the Lightning since I saw my first Gen-2. My love for fast trucks has been raging inside for too long (and I'm getting sick of my pathetic 6) So I've been looking around at used Lightnings, but can't seem to find one for less than 20k. Now another truck I like is the Dakota R/t, so my question is this, Should I wing it and see if my parents will help me buy a used lightning, or get an R/t for a more affordable price, and do some mods?

A Dakota RT will never run or look as hot as a Lightning.
There is nothing like it on this planet
(except the 4 door HD edition)

If it's a Lightning your after, then beg borrow and steal,

Wing it with the folks! This is a very easy question to answer. Rob is on the money, there isn't a truck out there that will give you the performance of the L nor give you the respect on the road.

Not only that, but the room for growth is tremendous for mods.

I was in the same boat you were from the first time I saw the L. I worked my @$$ off for two long years before I bought mine. Do what you have to do to get one. In the long run it'll be worth it.

 

Ok thanks for the responses guys, it seems to be an overwhelming yes for the L so far. I think if one pops up here for 18k or so I'll be in good shape, although I'll be settling with 20 less HP than I would if I bought an 01+. Are there any problems that come to mind that I should get at, if I get an 99-00 L?

 

Even if you stuck a s/c on the dakota it would still be slower than the Lightning and you wouldn't get that money back in all likelyhood.
