lost the toneau cover on the highway today!

I was coming home from school today the way I normally go on the highway and I was in the left lane doing about 80 or so. And my friend says, "Your top!" I look back and see the drivers side front corner kind of flapping around. I look over at him and say no problem. (it's done that b4) and I hit it. I look in the mirror and the whole thing came flying off. Not just the black vinyl cover, the whole square frame came off the side rails of the bed. (The truck is fine. I just looked back and saw my toneau cover flying in the air and the support pieces going all over the place... I am lucky it didn’t hit anyone else's car. I don’t wanna be responsible for that. I just wanted to share my funny story for ya. So I’m in the market for a new toneau cover!
Has that ever happened to anyone else b4?
thanks, Shane

yeah I am very lucky it didnt hit anyone and cause any kinda of accident. It was only held on there by 4 little allen bolts... I saw the one corner getting air, and the wind i guess got under it and really pulled it apart... Could have been a lot worse... But I do like how the truck looks without it somedays to. It gives me time to get the money together tog et a new cover ordered...

That Sucks Shane, sorry to hear it

Can't say I've ever lost mine,
But I have lost a Hood on a differant car.
Once I lost my Fiberglass hood on a 69 Mustang GT,
(forgot to put the pins back on )
ON THE PARKWAY The sucker came up , ripped itself from the factory hinges, went flying over my car, MAJOR AIR, and landed perfectly flat in the middle lane. I pull over and go running down the parkway to retreive it, I get there and it's Mint, un-touched (of couse the underside seperated where the hinge was) as the cars are flying around it and I'm looking for a break to run in there and retrieve it,
SOB comes flying up, and ran it over right in front of my eye's

replace that fugly soft cover for some fiber glass... no way in hell its going to fly off...plus it looks better and adds more body color and "smoothness"

Werd

Hard tonneaus add personaility and definition to the bed. Also gives you a more secure place to keep items such as nitrous bottles, slicks, etc

Not laughing at ya Shane just with ya..that is a funny story, If it would happen to me I would be like OH SH$T and once I saw everyone was okay I would be laughing my *** off specially if a friend was in there.

If you want a factory again get it!! I am not a huge fan of hard tonneau's but to each is his own.

I have a retrax, but there are probably people that dont like those.

I also like fake *****...but I am sure there is a counter..LOL

Man, that must have sucked! I'm not so bumed out about it though. It was an aftermarket one. (an off brand) it wasnt from ford I got it at pep boys for like $150 or so. I always wanted a ford one. So I may get the money together and order one from ford.
The way I look at it was, I was cruising on the highway going between 80-120 at times, and that is well over the speed limit even for the fast lane. So that is my little mental ticket to take it easy. So I'll go out and pay for a new one at my expense...
