Superchips to Sponsor Roush Racing & Carl Edwards
CONCORD, N.C. – Roush Racing announced today that it has signed a multi-year sponsorship agreement with Superchips, Inc. Superchips will be the primary sponsor of the No. 99 Roush Racing Ford F-150 driven by Carl Edwards in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, beginning this week at the O’Reilly 200 in Bristol, Tenn., for the remainder of the 2003 season. Superchips will be an associate sponsor with Roush Racing for the remaining years of the agreement.
Founded in England in 1983, Superchips, Inc. was one of the first companies specializing in the “tuning” of computer-controlled vehicles for more power. Vehicles programmed by Superchips have gone on to win in a variety of racing series throughout England.
Since beginning U.S. operations in 1992, they've continued to excel in racing, along with providing more power for street driven vehicles. Today Superchips offers tuning for many different makes and models from exotic race cars to diesel powered tow vehicles. They are not currently used in NASCAR competition.
“Carl Edwards has demonstrated his ability by his success so far this season in the Craftsman Truck Series,” said Jack Roush. “We are excited to have Superchips as a new sponsor for Carl and the No. 99 team and we are glad to have their support as we continue to look for the primary sponsor for 2004 to grow with Carl and his racing career.”
“I am really thrilled to get my first big sponsor,” Edwards said. “I am excited to learn about their company and represent them the best that I can. I’ve known about their company for years and I’m anxious to use their product in one of my personal vehicles. I’ve always been curious to see how their product works and now I’ll get to see firsthand.”
“Everyone at Superchips is excited about our new relationship with Roush Racing and Carl Edwards," said Rick Rollins, Superchips director of marketing. "Our heritage at Superchips comes from racing. To be able to continue that line with Carl and the No. 99 Craftsman Truck is a great opportunity for us. We look forward to the rest of this year and going forward in 2004. Plus we really like his back-flips.”
Roush Racing is the world’s largest and the United States’ winningest race team with 278 wins in NASCAR, SCCA and IMSA events. Roush Racing currently holds the record for the most wins in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with 32 victories since 1996.
Roush Racing is a subsidiary of Livonia, Mich., based Roush Industries that operates eight motorsports teams; five in NASCAR Winston Cup with drivers Mark Martin, Jeff Burton, Matt Kenseth, Kurt Busch and Greg Biffle; one in the Busch Series with Burton; and two in the Craftsman Truck Series with drivers Jon Wood and Carl Edwards.
