Question Racing Stripes

I am getting racing stripes this week. It will start from the tip of the hood, over the roof, down the tonneau cover and down the tailgate. Should it go over the wing also? Thnx....

You gotta give up the goods. What color stripes? Just white or something different.

And, just sort of a side question, they have to sand off all the old paint right? They can't just paint over the paint can they?

I had always thought they did just paint right over but I've been doing lots of paint work on some parts, and it seems like the very first thing you do is remove old paint. Spray on paint thinner, sand, clean, then start.

Hmm, how much are those stripes going to cost you? I remember I saw someones black L with DSG stripes and it looked amazing. If you don't mind (ofcourse) just an estimated cost so I could mentally plan out when I could get it done.

The material used will be a 3M 5 Year Heavy Marine Grade Vinyl with UV Protection. My installer guarantees it from fading, cracking or peeling for 5 years. He says most likely it will last longer if I maintain it like you do with good paint. Each stripe will be 11" wide. Price installed is $450 .

That includes replacing all of my other graphics so they all match with new shade of white. Also lots of the other guys use cheaper vinyl that just last about a year or so. 3M is the top of the line and the 3M grade he is using is one of there most durable in withstanding the elements like sun, hot $ cold weather, snow, rain and so on. Don't let the other guys fool you with cheaper vinyl because you get what you pay for. This will be a 2 color part with the white as the main stripe and the red for pin stripping the white.

The vinyl will probably not fade, but since you will get no sunlight under the vinyl when it comes time to re-do it or take it off you'll regret vinyl...your paint underneath will be a depper better looking color than the rest of the truck because the rest of the truck will fade minorly and cause you to have dark blue racing stripes on your truck...
