Question 15 vs 16 inch rims and slicks

Fellow L owners, if you had to do it all over again? Would you buy 15 or 16 inch rims to go with your slicks?

Hoosiers or MT's ?

Cast your vote!

yes! Just starting to learn and price shop. Two strong recommendations to go with 15's so far.

I would go with 16" because with the 15" rims you have to shave the brake calipers to fit them on I was told.

15's give you more options with street slicks and true slicks but the above post is correct, a bit of grinding is required on the calipers, I went with the 16's for just that reason, for street slicks I'll use Nittos on the stock rims and for the track 16x10x28 Hoosiers on 16x10 rims, there are alot of guys running real fast on the 16's and I think there the best choice.

Thumbs up 15 inch rims

If you plan on running more power in the future you might as well get them now. you'll end up over powering the 16's
Just my 2 cents.

That's a good point, next year I am having the lower built and I am going to boost that KB minimum in the low to mid 20's.

I have 17" rims. what slicks can I put on them?

the tires don't have a tall enough side wall to hook up. the Rims are in great shape.

what are your recommendations?

(sorry about hijacking the thread)

I know these aren't slicks, but I just bought the Nitto 555R's and I can't believe the difference from the F 1's, they actually hook when you put it to the floor.

Well, o.k. you get tire spin, but not like the F 1's

15" if your running that much boost. I run them with 28X10.5W M/T Drags. Traction is not a problem and you don't have to shave the calipers that much.

I saw an old thread with I think Sal's shaved calipers. They were a mess. Sal had described how much material needs to be taken off. I wouldn't want to drive something like that on the street.

The pics in this thread were removed but it gives measurements.

16's or 15's, it all depends on how quick you plan on running! the 16's are good for the 11 second range and the 15's are better for low 11's tru the 10's and beyond! the caliper issues arent that drastic and JDM has the best way to deal with 15" dia. rims IMO.
I my self am going to step up from my 16's and go with 15's! cause I want that 10 pass!

Hey Rob,

Yah, I am really happy with the Nitto's! I reduced the air pressure like you suggested with the F-1's and it did make a difference, but the nitto's WOW, they really grip. Don't get me wrong you can still roast them, but generally speaking I am impressed.

Now that I am done with the major mods for now I want to get to the track and see what all this work will do. I only have between 700 and 900 miles on the F-1's and a fellow L owner here in Bonita is picking them up.

With all the research and listening I have done I think I might be able to pull high 11's - so - I'm thinking, stick with 16's for now and if down the road I do the lower look at 15's??

What d ya think?

Dan

I had 16's originally. Sold them to go with 15" Bogarts. I wanted matching rims, so I bought 16's to match my Weld 18's. I sold them and I'm buying 15's again because I can't hook up. After all that, I recommend getting 15's and being done with it.
