Truck doesn't feel chipped...

I have a Superchip now tuned by JDM and I love the race program I have on there. I just know that (the chip is in) but the truck is driving like it's unchipped. (even on the race side) It's fart shifting sometimes, and the overall performance of the truck has seem'd to have gone way down... This happened once about 3 weeks ago, so my friend and I pulled the chip, put it back in and reset the battery, and that didnt fix it! So we had to spray some electronic parts cleaner and I sprayed it on there and it evaporated right up. But it sure cleaned the contacts. We put the chip back in, and the truck was running like a champ. It happened again the other day... Now after pulling the chip, and putting it back in once, it still drives like unchipped. (haven't tried cleaning the contacts again) But why should I have to be doing this every few weeks? I am going to pull the computer and really get in there and clean it out, but is it from pulling the chip often and getting reburns, and then popping it back in... (in and out, in and out...)
Anyone else have problems like this? Thanks, Shane

Weather plays an important role in the power dept. High humidity and temps kill power on forced inducted vehicles.

NOTE I just went out there and sprayed the parts cleaner in there after I pulled the chip and put it back in. I didnt even have to reset the computer and now it's chipped. (nothing to do with the weather) But why did I have to do that? Anymore info on this? thanks, Shane

maybe your contacts are just wore out......i dunno anything about that though, havent heard of it before, but if it can get dirty that easily it just sounds like its too loose

It's fixed now after I sprayed the cleaner on the contacts...
Why does it read the chip sometimes, then it just fades away and im unchipped? And how does spraying the cleaner in there help? What can I do about this if it continues to happen? Thanks, Shane

did you tape the chip in? or just slip it in there.

The contacts oxidize. Yours must do it more than others. Depends on the humidity in the air on how much the contacts will corrode. I would try to get it as air tight as possible.

thanks dan. I will double check on the connection where it seals. The chip is in there I know that. If thats what your wondering grinomyte. You can usually tell if the chip snaps in there or not... Its not that. Cause it ran (chipped) for a few weeks. Now that I have it where I want it, can I put some clear shipping tape over the chip and try to seal it better? thanks, Shane

Shane, I posted about this same problem a couple weeks back. You should tape the chip in tight,if the contacts look clean you should not scuff any more off of them. This is just my 2 cents worth but I think I even read this in superchips instructions. My chip even felt tight but I pulled it out and taped it anyhow and Ive had no problem since.

TAPE the chip in. Never, nerver just let it hang there.

With as hard as the shifts are in your truck with the program you're running that chip will get "shifted" in no time with nothing holding it in. I had mine electrical taped and still had probs. Thats when I reached for the duct tape.:beers:

You can install the Diablo chip w/o tape, eventhough they give you a sticker to hold the chip in and cover the whole. The superchips seem to fall out under hard acceleration.

100mph duct tape YEA BABY

thanks for all your help. I am going to apply some tape to it pretty soon. My question is why after I pull the chip, and put it back in tight, it still didnt feel chipped? (if it was loose, it shouldnt be then...) But It didnt get fixed till I sprayed the cleaner on the computer port. So it's not only it's loose, the contacts seem to being worn off or something? I dont know, any more advise on it? Otherwise I am going to tape it up later to really seal it up and go from there. Thanks, Shane
