Need an update on all the crazy, ridiculous, assinine, humorous, stupid, ignorant, clueless things people have asked or said about your Lightning.

My latest? Guy parks nose-on to me in a decked out Ford F150 4X4 Supercrew as I'm coming out of Menard's. He says, "Wow, that's an expensive 'toy' ya got there."

Ya, like your 4X4 musta cost about $12,000 more than my Lightning. People must think Lightnings cost like $50K...or something.

 

With all the appearance mods I have done (20's, Flames, shaker,etc...) people still ask me if this is the way the come from the factory????????????

or "Are those Flames Graphics?????????????"


Sometimes I just say Yes to both questions. Its the Lightning R model.HEHEHE

i had a fan tell me to try to hold on to it, because he heard they were going to quit making the "32V Blackhawk" engine, that powers it, and the real wood in the bed was too expensive. i told him the only real wood was in the drivers seat area, when you crank that Blackhawk up

 

Yesterday I had a guy in a slammed down Acura Type R something or other with a monster tach say "Is that thing stock?" (as my loud exhaust is drowning out what he is saying). "I done run up against one of those earlier, but it didn't f**k me up like this one did".

I just said "Yup" and waved my hand like Jamie Farr's body guard did in Cannonball Run when somebody asked if his Rolls Royce was stock.

 

I listened to a know-it-all at Jiffy Lube telling his buddy that my Lightning would run 10's through the quarter mile with just a little "tuning" of the computer.

I try to ignore those types, since they have no idea of what speed is and what it takes to make a car/truck run 10's.

The most memorable quote I ever heard was from a Ford service tech where I bought my truck. Summer of 99 during the first service appointment. He pulled it in to the service bay and raised the hood. Did a double take and yelled to the whole garage, " Hey guys, come take a look, this thing has a supercharger!" Last time I ever went there for service.

 

I would have asked for my keys back as soon as he said that. NO WAY IN HELL would I leave my truck with an idiot like that.

 

Not a lightning related one, but I once had a punk argue with my girlfriend about base mustangs (v6) having 260hp stock


I got alot of stupid Lightning questions or comments. Never remember what they say though cause I ignore them while nodding my head and saying 'yea'. Occasionaly I will correct them.

 

I had a similar dealer experience with my old 2000L. I took it into the local dealership for the intercooler recall and a salesman approached me and asked me what kind of truck is that. I told him that it was a Lightning. He asked me who made it. I couldn't answer him. The only thing I could do was stand there and stare at him. I guess the Ford emblems don't account for anything or something.

I always get the "yeah those things have a Cobra motor in 'em." The kicker is I have to pull out the manual and show them that they are wrong.

I can't wait until I get to meet some people who actually know what an L is.

What was it,

When I first got I had it at a city park event and one of the KID security guards was like "thats a nice looking truck."

I said ya its alot of fun pretty fast for a pickup truck. He said "its fast?? I thought it was an appearance package?"

I said hows 400 horsepower for ya??

His jaw dropped and I litem up for him when I left..

Laughing the whole way!!!

 

Just yesterday I went to a local tire shop to have some new Nitto DR's put on. I was standing back there watching as the were switching the tires and wheels and one of the guys walked up to me and says..."Whats different about the motor in this thing....I noticed it looks a little different under the hood......What's this thing have in it??" I said its a 5.4 liter V8 with a supercharger. He says " Whats supercharged mean?....Whats a supercharger?...I could not help but laugh before I explained.

Then, the same guy was putting the tires back on the truck and I asked....How much air pressure did you put in there?....He says 40....and I said....I dont want near that much...put about 25lbs of pressure in there. He looked at me like I was nuts and said...." I thought it would probably go faster with more air in the tires...I said the tires want hook up with that much air in them. He looked at me and said " hook up" what do you mean "hook up"....whats that mean??....I just said...you can't get any traction with that much pressure with them. I could not help laughing though...it was truly funny!
