Yeah, excellent idea, I just put one in yesterday for my friend...it holds almost 2 quartz more over stock.....modularmadness.com has then on sale for 47 bucks...or you can buy the combo, FTVB and pan for 250 bucks....

It does not sit much lower but has a drain plug and holds about 1 1/2qts more fluid!

We have the FTVB, pan and filter on sale this month for $249.95

FTVB with 4X4 pan and filter for $249.95

Here is a pic of the clearance. Got about 5.25 inches from the bottom of the drain plug to the ground. This is with the FRPP 1 inch drop in the front.
No problemo.

If your going to drain your fluid...you might as well do the pan. The 4x4 pan is alright, I went for the B&M.... my truck is dropped 3 inches up front and 4 inches in the back, I have no problems with clearance with the B&M.

Its about 170 bux, hold 3+ quarts of fluid over the stock pan, its aluminum for better cooling, and has "fins" on it for better cooling as well. Was worth doing IMO, its peace of mind since most tranny failures are due to heat.

Yes Konig, the B&M pan is the way to go, I've got one on my 2000 L and all the info you stated is correct, worth every penny, John H.
