need answer once and for all Bassani exhaust

Simply,
Is their cat back system a pipe inside a pipe design?

I heard it was and that the inside pipe has a 2" diameter.
the outer pipe is 2.5" OD.

Is this true?
(that would explain the extreme price)

and why there is no increase in performance with it.

from what I understand that is with the borla system... not the bassani....

No pipe inside pipe design at all, not the X-pipe, mufflers, or the tips.

There is no increase inperformance in any catback........

If you go to http://www.svtlightnings.com/ then check "How to's" then "Mods dynoed one.." then click Bassani tab they have the Bassani Catback showing 18HP/21TQ improvement. Is that bs? I would like one but $600+ for just sound is not too justifiable...

Maybe in an ideal, or frictionless world.. like jupiter or something. Don't buy a catback for the performance. Buy it for the sound.

I'd be willing to bet there's some variable in those numbers that is not written down.

Well I finally caved in and spent that money and I couldn't be more happy. The fit was great and everytime I start my truck up and drive it I have an even bigger smile on my face. To me it was well worth the money. I went the cheaper route first and wasn't happy with the sound at all.

catbacks won't really give you any noticable performance on the street or strip, it is mostly for sound. You need to get headers to really feel a difference.

edit: long tube headers that is.

What the high flow cats do is decrease back pressure in the exhaust system. All stock cats on the L's produce 10lb of back pressure from stock to 6lb lower pulleys (tested). The high flow Bassini's lowered that number to 5psi and did show on the dyno a very minimal HP and TQ increase but a very noticable increase in both at mid range rpm. The curves went up quicker and higher in mid range (35HP) only to level off back where it was before adding the high flow cats. There is a big difference in sound, louded, lower sounding.
You will see a slight decrease in boost, and feel a increase in the first 3500 rpm of a run, and with the passenger window down a very noticable increase in sound.
I would advise anyone, stock or not to add the high flow Bassini's and they are not a pipe in pipe design, just a straighter shot into the cats as compared to the stock cats from Ford.

It's your call. SeeYa

They are a direct replacement for the factory cat pipes. The hardest part will be removing the factory cat pipes due to the exhaust clamps crimping the pipes and muffler inlets.
