Lightning Loyalty?

I wonder how many 03 Cobra owners got rid of there Cobra's for a Lightning. Most likely none. We sure are loosing Lightning owners left and right like the Plague.

Cobra and F body folks just seem to be much more devoted to there vehicles. Why is that?

Lightning owners, mainly located in Florida are not loyal to their trucks. Must be the humidity or something. Having owned mustangs since i was 16, it feels nice to have a change. Theres a lot of people who wouldnt touch a Cobra prior to 03... so its just a matter of time before they move on. Nothing worse then someone who doesnt respect their vehicles heritage.

Plague you mean? I think most people bought L's in the first place because they were the fastest Ford product at the time. Now that the cobra takes the title, people are moving on.

Not having taken a scientific survey I can only speculate. Might it not have something to do with the poor build quality and high operating expense of a Lightning? Who in their right mind wants a high performance truck, anyway? The weight of an anvil and the aerodynamics of a brick? And Ford finally put a decent bottom end in the Cobra, unlike our cast cranks and powdered rods, not to mention the weak tranny and crappy brakes. It takes a ton of money to make these things fast AND reliable. And no amount of money will make them economical. That said, I wouldn't trade my truck for any Cobra or F-body. Although when I'm finished I will have a lot more in it than a new Z06 (unlike the Cobra, a REAL sports car), the look on the face of an M5 when I dust them will be priceless.

Think of it this way.

When a L gets sold or traded in , it just gives another person the opportunity to own THE BADDEST TRUCK AROUND!!!!!!!!

Thumbs up

Screw it, I say have both!

01 Lightning
03Cobra

If it came down to it and I had to choose, I would stick with the Lightning. I am a Built Long Block away from having my dream vehicle and I love it. A fully streetable 5,000LB truck that can driven to the track and bust off deep 11 second ET's. I mean come on. Sure the Cobra can do the same at a fraction of the cost(mods wise), but it can't haul my jetski or quad around(well maybe with an ugly azz hitch). It can't tow my GN to the track. These trucks are just simply amazing. If some people can't grasp that, who cares>??? I know I don't. Like Vinnie said, let the next guy get a turn and maybe he will be a true enthuasist. -Mat-

Well i posted a pick of why i chose the LIGHTNING a while back, over anthing i wanted, and i could afford whatever i wanted up to SALEEN.
It was a picture of my lightning on the beach with two 11 footers out in the surf.
I cant count the times i came sooo close to buying a used german sports car, turboed of course, and a few jags that i came real close to buying, these were all older models in the 30+ range.
The minute i spoted the LIGHTNING and started reading these boards i bought one.
Never liked mustangs, do not like F-150s, do not like fokus, do not like cv or mm.
Its LIGHTNING or nothing ford for me, at least thats how i feel now.
