Leaky Intercooler in my 99

Hey,

Well I have a leaky intercooler in my 99 L. I talked to Ford and everything and they basically told me I'm SOL. It sucks and completely unfair. Now I really need to get this part fixed but I don't have $900+ to spend for this part....I need the UPGRADE kit(I dont know the exact part number) for the 99-00

Does anyone know anyone at a Ford dealership that could cut me a deal on the part?

Does anyone have this exact part for sell? (Maybe lying around in the garage)

If anyone has any information, please post it. Thanks again

Try the discount ford parts places

fordpartsonline.com and downsford.com

Or see of you can get one from a junk yard ?

Well, if memory serves me right (search works better)....

The intercoolers develop a hairline crack at the welds under the blower. Its pretty safe to say that it goes straight through the engine. The whole drama can be searched from here, this is where it all began more than 3 years ago.

In my opinion, if it weren't for the internet its ability to bring many people of similar hobbies together at very low cost, Ford wouldn't have done a thing about it. I logged everything and made a sign up sheet.

Then Ford put out a half-*** recall. They were replaced for free until September 2001 or 2002 not sure. They were ONLY replaced if the customer wanted it.

Some people who sold it or traded it in were ok I guess, it was outta their hands. The people that bought them unknowingly like nubbins, well, they are SOL.

Just think it could be worse.

A defective part is just that, and time shouldn't have anything to do with getting it fixed (the first time). I am sure alot of Lightning owners were not even aware of the nature of the recall (unitll their intercooler resorvior was empty). It is expensive, but you have to get it done. If it keeps leaking you end up damaging your L further.

Good Luck,
Mark

I've just answered 6 e-mails about this today.

same question over at NLOC..

E-mail me for an answer

nawrockm@cooley.edu

(don't want big brother FORD, to hear what Ihave to say)

Had mine replaced for $532, last month.

Parts alone are over $800 (special kit) and install is about $300 at dealership)

e-mail me and I'll explain your options. I battled with Ford for a few months over this. (grand Cherokee got a alot or summer use)(not what I bought it for)

I had mine replaced three times (no charge) by a local dealer before they finally replaced it with the 99/00 upgraded piece. Currently have 65K miles with no intercooler problems since the upgrade.

When, I rebuilt my engine and added the MP blower I took my inner cooler to a good radiator shop and had them boil and pressure test mine all checked good. Can't you just have the inner cooler repaired? after the boiled it, it was nice and clean.

I guess if the hole or crack is not to deep inside the fins?
