Electric Fan Question?

My truck doesn't like the ac relay wire connection in the fuse box under the hood. Can I just not use this method of turning the fan on/off when the ac is in use and just install a switch under the dash? Thinking of just relocating the switch that came with the kit under the dash. Of course I would ditch the 40amp circuit and only use the 30 amp circuit breaker.

I have noticed driving my truck to the dealership to get it fixed yesterday, my volt gauge never went below 14v once with just the toggle switched used under the hood to turn the fan on. When the system uses the a/c relay there is a huge strain on the system and my volt gauge goes down to 12.5v when the truck ideling.

Is this a good/bad idea?

Hmm...

Are you saying:

1) Truck running, AC on, idling, electric fan switched on = 14V?

2) Truck running AC on, idling, electric fan AC relay = 12.5V?

Sounds like a wiring problem to me.

Believe me I checked all the wires, it's connected correctly. The voltage goes back to 14v only while the truck is moving. Once stopped it goes back to 12.5-13v.

My AC Clutch actually makes a repeating clicking noise when the fan a/c relay tap wire is installed. When I remove it, the sounds goes away. I have been told this can be caused by to little freon in the system, freon has recently been checked and is fine. So it leads me to believe it's a electrical load problem.

12.5 is normal for idling... If you really care, you can put a bigger alternator/smaller pulley on.

Not sure about the clicking.

i have mine hot wired to the ignition anytime the key gets turn on. The fan turns on and runs all the time no matter what when the truck is running. Less wear on the electric motor in my oppinion from start and stopping the fan all the time. you can do this if ou want.
