I agree. It can be a little sloppy the first time, but at least you save a good pan in case you want to put it back to stock. Just get a big drain pan and loosen all the bolts and drop one side to let the majority of the fluid drain out. Once you get the fluid low enough, remove the rest of the bolts and slowly lower the pan to the drain bucket.

BAH! EASIER said than done... My arms were a mess, and I would have been happier just popping a hole in it, and letting it all run out. Because I didn't, I ended up sitting under the truck forever, trying to ease the fluid out, bolt by bolt.

Hell, the factory pan can't be ALL that expensive, and even the 4x4 pan can be got for under $50.... save yourself the headaches.

pump it out.

Use a pump to get most of the fluid out of the fill pipe.

I dont want to keep it as a spare, it doesnt even have a drain plug...Im not selling my truck any time soon, even if I was its not worth taking off the B&M seeing as it was only 160 bux. Im much more concernd with making a mess in my driveway since it was re-painted this last year and still looks new. I think Im going to opt for the "big fat nail" method.

does anyone have any advice for the install of either the pan or the VB? Im going to go with the Mobil 1 synthetic ATF ... by the way, how many quarts does the stock pan hold? including the fluid in the system lines?

I used a small (5/32", I believe) drill bit.

Ah, you big wuss! j/k

It can be messy the first time, but once you get the hang of it, it's not to bad. I was spoiled before, I always had my dad's shop and tools to do that stuff.

Notice it's a "HELP" part that most auto parts stores carry. They(the HELP parts) should be in a section by themselves.
