Question Help, Truck won’t start because of stock 80mm air meter.

Help, Truck won’t start because of stock 80mm air meter.

Hey guys I am trying to get the truck back to stock in order to take it in for service. Here is my list of mods. The truck is a 2000 L. JDM chip, 90mm mass air, big mouth air filter, 2 # lower blower pulley, 3:73 gears, line mod valve, and aluminum drive shaft. Everything came from Jim. I left in the gears, the line mod, drive shaft, and the 2# blower pulley. I removed the chip, 90mm, and the air filter. I unplugged the battery for 10 hours or so but the truck won’t stay running. I’ll start the truck and it goes up to about 1500 RPM’s and then drops down to 1000, and then stalls. After some trial and error I put the 90mm and air filter back in with out the chip and the truck started. So now I know it’s either the stock mass air meter, or the little probe that goes into the stock air box. I then hooked up the 80mm with the big mouth filter and the truck still won’t run. So now I am pretty sure the problem is with the 80mm. What could be wrong with it? It worked when I took it out and only has about 10K miles on it, if that. Did it maybe get dirty or wet when it was in storage? What will happen if I take the truck in with the 90mm on with out the chip?

Thanks for any help.

John

Unless the 80mm is damaged it's not the problem. Sounds more like an air leak. Check all you PCV lines on the bottom of the rubber boot. You did remember to use the 80mm boot didn't you? If the reason you are going back to stock is that you are worried about your warranty you should remove the pulley. They will notice it right away.

this may sound stupid but I forgot to do this once... when I was putting the mass air back on, I forgot to plug the bottom plug in back in. The truck would start, but not sound, smell, or run right, and it would die. I eventually figured out it wasnt the chip, or anything we all thought it was. It was just that I didnt plug the mass air back in right. just my $0.02 it's pry something else, i just thought I'd share my story. good luck, shane
