Question Broken drive shafts?

Just wondering whether any of you high h.p. guys (Don, Bill, Steve, Sal, Jim, etc.) are having any problem breaking drive shafts? Are you using the Ford aluminum, or have you gone back to the steel? Anybody experimented with aftermarket shafts? Now that my KB is almost done I am a little leery of going to the track with the aluminum shaft and possibly having to bring it home on a flatbed. Incidentally, here's a message I received from a c.f. driveshaft mfgr. in response to my inquiry:

Thank you for your interest in BAC Technologies Ltd. We do not have
this shaft off-the-shelf, however, we do make custom shafts. We would
need to know the length from centerline to centerline of the u-joint.
Also, what u-joint type (probably a 1350 series). Typical price for
custom shafts run from $850 - $1350 and include Dana Spicer lite
U-joints installed.

Best Regards,

Julie K. Burkett

Most of the people that have broke shafts (me to) broke it because of axle wrapup and not real power. I have seen Steel & Alum ones run low 11's high 10's with no problems, just make sure the pinion angle is right and you can stop the axle wrapup!!

What pinion angle are you setting up for the street and for the track? I like running under 6 degrees on street, at track Im still experimenting...

It still sounds like people are breaking driveshafts, for whatever reason. Sounds like it would be a good idea to invest in a spare.

I am still running my origional stock alluminum drive shaft. Though I did replace the U bolts at the start of this season just to be safe.
