Question on JDM Heat Exchanger

Folks:

Another dumb question from a newbie owner.

Prev. owner of my truck added the JDM heat exchanger. Specifically, is this just added cooling capacity for the radiator? Moreover, how much does it hold? Looks like 2 gallons to me but I could be wrong.

Also, regarding the IC: this is my first water to air I/C, so how often do you have to change the coolant? Is it straight coolant or is it the same mix as the radiator?

Thanks again for the help!
Rich

Hey Rich,
I have JDM heat exchanger. The exchanger adds more fluid and is much more efficiant at dissipating the heat due to the size and design. I believe it holds 2 gallons and use 50/50 mix like the radiator. I bought pre mixed prestone at autozone. It is also same color as stock fluid.

Since the intercooler and heat exchanger dont come in contact with iron and are both aluminum, I dont think a strong concentration of antifreeze is needed...you will cool best with straight water...I just run straight distilled water and 1 bottle of purple ice in mine......

Thanks guys..

Since this is the first Ford I've ever owned, I'll have many more newbie questions.

By the way, does Ford use the equivalent of GM's Dexcool in their vehicles now or do they still use the old green stuff?

Thanks
Rich
