Mike,
To hardwire the Valentine 1 you will need the direct-wire power adapter that comes in the box with a new Valentine 1. You can also buy it on Valentine's website. The direct-wire power adapter
is fused. Bill in NY p.s. I have hardwired Valentine 1's many times.

If it's the cord from radio shack, then it's the two middle wires , which are red and green. Ironically if I remember correctly, the red is negative and the green is positive.

Ive talked to a couple of people who have cut a phone chord, and used the 4 wires in the chord to hard-wire the detector. Has anyone done this and can tell me which wires go where or whatever?

Why would someone take a $300+ radar detector and a truck worth thousands of $ and jury rig (half *** hoook it up)a radar detector hookup when all they have to do is get the $13 Direct-wire power adapter which is fused and do it the right way. Indeed you could wire the Val 1 without the Direct-wire power adapter but you won't be doing your friend a favor by any means. For example, no fuse in the hook-up could possibly cause problems down the road with either the truck wiring or the radar detector. Hmmmm, if it is worth doing do it right.

If that was what was in the Valentine box then you would be correct. But since I was in the truck when the work was done and he used the parts from the box... I seriously doubt it.. ; )

custom install

This is what i did, and i will take some pics and post, but first off don't mess with cutting phone cable jsut spend the 13 bucks for the hardwire trnasformer if yours did not come with it. on the front of my headlinder compartment right near the window, i installed a phone jack which you can not see unless you have your head on the dash and then i jsut have a jumber from there to the V1 so when it is out, i don't have cables hanging around. jsut thought i woud pass along the idea. looks awesome and keeps things clean.

Mike,

Your comment "or am I just gonna keep getting smart a$$ comments? " is way out of line! You come here asking for help and you get responsible, reasonable, proper comments on your query and then you make negative comments. As for the Val 1
install, it makes no sense to install it in a half a$$ fashion. Do it right as the detector is expensive and so is the truck. As for hooking it up with the phone wire..... Well, you would only use two of the 4 wires found in the phone wire cable. Bad news to do this as you have no fuse in the picture and that is a major mistake. Have your friend spend the $13.00. Installing the detector in half a$$ fashion is not doing your friend a favor...

I don't know about any of you but when I'm doing a project and come on here to get some questions answered I dont' enjoy smart *** comments either. The last thing I want to hear when I'm stuck on something and the project can't move on is some smart *** spewin off crap, his comment was right on......if you don't have anything to offer to his question than maybe you shouldn't respond with some stupid comment. Since I don't know the answer I'll just stop rambling now

hardwired V1

I have a V1 (is there any other) Hardwired to a "keyed" power
wire in my overhead console. The cord for the unit goes inside the tube supplying power to the automatic dimming R/V mirror, to the V1 mounted just below the mirror. The Remote module is also mounted inside the O/H console as well.

Then a lead goes across the top, under the headliner, down the a-pillar inside the dash to my REMOTE READOUT, doublefaced taped between the speedo and tach, under the top of the gauge cluster 1/2 inch in from the front edge.

WHY would anyone want to have to take your eyes off the road to look up to the mirror area to see the reading. That is just as bad as looking at the detector itself, maybe even worse.

I just drop my eyes two inches, to the guage cluster to check out the reading, as the bird dog barks.
