Straight Pipe (remove muffler)

I heard a truck today that had origionally a Basani cat Back system. The owner was not satisfied with the sound so they had a local muffler shup cut the muffler out and run straight pipes. It did not sound that loud. Why shouldn't I try it with my stock exhaust? For less than 100.00 I can see if I like the sound and if not then gat a cat back system. It looks like the stock muffler can be removed and replaced with a piece if straight pipe. The owner said that it did not drone. Has anyone tried this and what is the upside and downside?

I liked no mufflers.
plus-loud-less weight.
minus-some tracks/events require mufflers.

i don't know why anyone would cut their $900 Basani exhaust and decide to go straight pipe... I mean it's one thing to go straight pipe... Cut off your mufflers and get some pipe and rehang your tips. I'm just saying I dont know why anyone would dump Basani cause they don't like how it sounds... To each their own I guess... I have silver bullet and I love it. thanks, Shane

It's a nice cheap sound. Real raspy, but has a good rumble to it.

And there are us few who believe it will gain you a little on the lower end.

As far as a drone, I know everyone has their own opinion, but homeboy must have been slightly def, since it WILL drone in the cab on freeway drives. You'll find yourself turning the music up, or asking the person on the cell phone to keep repeating what they said.

it's not horrible, or else I would have taken mine off a year ago. And you do get lots of looks by people, maybe it's because they could hear you a block away coming.

BLack01 nice clean set up. how do ya like it? you said it's loud and people can hear you from far away... that's both good and bad I guess... depends on how ya look at it. im just asking if when you do straight pipes, if it is a temp. thing and you are geting a catback system later on. Or are you keeping the straight pipe on like how you have it? just being curious. thanks, Shane

no muffs

I ordered a bassani and not being able to wait till it arrived
I removed the stock exhaust and put the stock tips on the pipes to direct the flow down a bit. Well its too loud for me and it drones. tone is not to my liking. perhaps piping it out to the side changes everything.
I can't wait for the bassani.
Thats why they make chocolate and vanilla

I like my straight pipes but will be switching to a Magnaflow catback shortly.

Shane, I like it...

It's only a temp thing (been saying that for 2 yrs now), but I do plane on putting a full exhaust system in. Motor/WORKS blower first though (priorities you know!).

Personal Opinion, but drone to me isn't that bad. Either that, or I have just gotten used to it. And having it exit out the side does help a little, gives it more room to exit, if it was under the truck, the sound will sit bounce off the ground, to the bottom of the truck, making it louder.

I will say this, my neighbors had to get used to it, especailly since I do leave my house sometimes pretty late.

Not sure about any other state, but in California, it's LEGAL not to have the muffler on. You just have to have cats. So, visual inspection isn't a problem. Only problem that MIGHT happen is if you meet a Officer **** who thinks it's too loud.

**** calls it the ghetto exhaust, but I think he's just jealous because I get more people leaving the dyno room covering their ears when my truck is strapped down than his.

I went from 13.6 1/4 mile to a 13.3 1/4 mile after ditching the stock cat-back for straight pipes, and you cant beat the sound!
