When the stock motor in my 02 came apart, we found a cast crank in it, while no one believed me we all physically seen it at REM and the crank is still there for disbelievers..

It'd be nice if they'd put forged cranks in all of us '01+ owners trucks!

How exactly can one tell from looking at the crank if it is forged or cast. I have two sitting in short blocks right now that I can look at. One in a JDM short block and one in my 2001 short block with holes in the sides.

No lawsuit...

More than likely they went to a Sinter forged crank. Still "forged", but no as strong as you would expect "forged" to be...

Actually, this same motor has been in the truck since 01.

As for the crank, the one I had in this motor was the $200 01-up CAST crank, not the $600 F7 forged crank. Nobody knew back then that Ford cheaped out on the crank in 01, but hell, I'd say it's handled big power well for two years .
SAL ! That is SICK you will be their in the future I'm sure !

Is the motor torn down yet? Any pics of the "cast" crank?

Wink

i detect sarcasm in your "cast" question. you seem to be "in the loop". are you possibly the head crank-yanker w/FMC, and know this to be impossible, or something?

That Sucks Sal,
Sorry to hear it
Sounds like you were on a record breaking run there too, bummer.

I always try and look at the positive in the negative
I'm sure you'll re-build it faster and stronger than ever before,
AND THAT ROCKS
