will my truck break
This message goes out to anyone that could help me.
I have a stock 2002 true blue lightning and am planning to go to the track tomorrow(Sears Point in Northern california). I was planning to run my stock truck on my friends slicks. I am not exactly sure what kind of slicks they are but i know they should fit my L.
My Question is should i do it.
I've been reading a lot about the driveshafts breaking without traction bars due to too much twist, and i have nothing done to my truck not traction bars or anything. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to run the slicks or should i just stick to the stock F1's. By the way tomorrow will be my first time racing at a track. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks.

search the threads man...no bars, no slicks. that's the way it's done. F1's for you this time.
leave on the last orange light, do NOT wait to see green.
launch from idle or a low rpm
lower your tire pressure to around 25lbs.
do not floor it off the line, but rather feather it then once it grips put the pedal through the floor.
do not go through the waterbox before your burnout
do a burnout until you see white smoke for a few seconds then stop, no need in eating up your tires
between runs shut your truck off and pop open the hood to cool it off
wear pants
rent/buy a helmet
good luck

It's not the torque, per se, that breaks driveshafts. It is axle wrap. If your rear axle wraps to the point that it binds the u-joints then you are in danger of breaking the driveshaft. Worse yet, if you start to hop, that's really bad.
A good set of bars will prevent both.

you wont be needing a helmet unless you plan on running a 12 sec 1/4 .... Everything Gambino mentioned is correct...the only thing he mentioned that doesnt work for me is the burn outs, I do much better when I dont warm up the F1s at all...plus your heating your engine up as well when you do that...the one you spent a half hour cooling down.
As most have said, don't run slicks until you have a safety loop and traction bars in place.
Also for safety sake, remove your drivers side floor mat so as not to get your feet entangled, just in case.
Anything faster than 14 seconds requires a helmet. I think most tracks rent helmets if you don't have one.
Most of all, have fun.

sorry it took me so long to reply. i posted that last night at about 4:00 am and i just woke up. So i guess its the f1's for me unless i can clamp the leafs together right. so what exactly do i need to clamp them and where can i get them. By the Speeder i'm located in San Mateo. Thanks for all youre help guys, anything else i need to know?
I really wouldn't use the slicks with just clamps it is sort of a gamble. They do help with wheel hop and axle wrap some, but don't want to guarantee them with slicks.
I can't remember the size, but you put one on the front of the leaf spring where all leafs are together and one on the rear on each side of the truck. You should be able to get some at any autoparts store that carry muffler clamps. Just need a size to fit around the leafs.

Yeah i was really questioning the slicks in the first place, i guess i'm going NO slicks till i can get some good traction bars on there. Good thing i checked up on it first. It would of really sucked if just had thrown the slicks on and broke my driveshaft. thanks for the priceless info.
