Major Boost Increase - Test Drive

With a 2# lower and a 2 1/2 inch upper, the stock belt size fits fine. Matter of fact it is a little tighter than my previous belt and the noise (not whine - mechanical) from the KB has subsided considerably. Guess there must be some play in that drive and the tighter belt snugged it up a bit.

Unfortunately my test drive did not go well. Drove fine at street speeds and lower throttle. When I jumped on it on the highway, it started really crapping out, so I got off it immediately. Gonna go out in the garage and pull some plugs and see how they look.
Boost had gotten around 18# when it started missing bad. Does anyone know if the Denso 22's can handle that boost?

Have 50# injectors, so if they are working right, fuel supply should not be a problem (crappy octane though-supreme is 90). The tune is a conservative one and is being used by others with that boost level. Kind of a hasstle being so far away from a tuner, troubleshooting by Fed-ex and telephone is not the way to go!!

Pulled Two Plugs

Pulled the first two plugs on the passenger side (getting a little late for any more). First one had an insulator that had broken all the way around high up in the plug and slipped down as one piece to the electrode, oh-oh. Number two looked ok with no insulator damage. It is late, mood not so good, and probably need to call my tuner in the am. Guess I should realize running this much boost (18-20), it might take awhile to get everything right.

I would think the Denso IT-22's will be fine, I run every bit of 15-16 lbs of boost with no problems on the stock eaton.
I know you say you have nice safe tune, meaning low timing,
but with that low of octane I think you need to make sure it's a SUPER RICH SUPER LOW TIMING TUNE. You mean 90 Octane is the highest you can get THAT SUCKS

I'm sure you'll get the bugs out and that Beast will be exactly that
GOOD LUCK BRO

Sorry to hear the bad luck. I would say that #18 is a little high for 90 octane. I will be running a built long block and Works 140 in a few months and the highest octane pump gas I can get in Hawaii is 92. I won't go over 15 or 16 pounds though. I am in the same boat as you are in. I have to tune over the phone/UPS. It sucks. Don't worry though you'll get it worked out.

Stop screwing with those overpriced Denso's and throw some NGK BR7EF's in there.

Time to ante up and buy a case of Torco. Stepping up the boost with low octane fuel is oohhh so dangerous.

I would second that. It is a pretty inexpensive test to throw on the NGKs.

Sorry that you can't get better gas than that. I can get 92 at the pump and envy those that have access to the Sunoco 94. I can get 100 octane at $4 bill a gallon but that gets real expensive.

I have had a lot of success running toluene in my gas. Perhaps you could give that a try? In your situation I would probably have a 2-4 program chip so I could run safe on the chitty gas and have some fun when I could run race gas or mixed in some toluene. I would be frustrated to see my motors potential (with a kenne bell) limited by the gas I could get.

Good luck and let me know if you need more info on running toluene.

I think it is probably your timing and octane of gas. I wouldn't dream of running a 2.5 upper and 2lb lower(read 22psi) w/o at least 93 octane, IT-24's or BR7EF's, and low timing(mine is at 12.5.)
I just switched to the BR7EF's and they seem to work good. $1.69 each at advance auto parts.

Good Advice

Woke up this morning still feeling a little bummed out, but after reading your replies my mood perked up cosiderably. Suppose I was feeling kind of lost on what to do next but thanks to you guys think I will do as follows:

Get the NGK BR7EF'S
Retard the timing some
Richen the tune a bit
Look into some Toluene or Torco

Just hope I get this thing humming before the snow flies
