JLP pulley bolts...ruined my H. Balancer!

I just wanted to se if anyone else has came across this.....?

I installed there 3lb pulley that I bought from them at WFC5, everything is great.

So I bought a 4lber from Sal at PSP and went to install a couple weekes ago.

What a nightmare..........................

I took off the old JLP and started to put on the new one from PSP. Well, I started to put the new bolts in and started to tighten down and well, it didn't feel right. So I backed out the one that I sarted to tighten down and.......... the threads came out of the harmonic balancer in a pile of metal shavings. WTF

Why you ask...... JLP use's standard bolt threads and Ford used Metric threads. So it screws up the metric threads on the balancer.

So as my truck has sat for 2 weeks now and no response from JLP, yes I sent 4 emails.

Don's bolt sent me his old harmonic balancer FREE, but, I have to get my new pulley miled out in the center to fit the 01' balancer.

What a crock of *****........

Question 1..... Why does JLP send standard thread bolts with there pulley systems if there are going to mess up the threads?

Question 2..... Why won't they answer my emails?

Question 3..... How many more people are going to have this problem?

I just hope that this does not happen to allot of people. Maybe I got the wrong bolt's from them.

Have they always sent out standard bolt's with the pulley's?

Yes, I have........no answer. All I get is voice mail. But I have not tried this week.

I'm pissed.

Very sorry to hear about the problem you are having. It is great to have people like Don helping others out! As far as the bolts, I believe you must have been sent out the wrong bolts. I have been selling (untill recently) JLP pulleys and installing with no problems at all.

Installing goes great.......no problems. It is a great setup up.

But, the problem is......

When you go to take out the bolts and install a different pullet setup, LFP, Metco, ASP, PSP, you will run into problems.

I just would like an answer from JLP...........

Yes, Don is a super nice guy.

We all used the standard bolts originally. The thread is so close between the two, that the standard bolts work. But we found out long ago, that the proper bolts are metric, and have been suppling those ever since. I have honestly never had anyone have an issue switching between the two, but there is surely a chance of this happening if the standard bolts distort the threads.

As for your pulley Steve, I'll be happy to exchange it for the 01-up style so you don't have to machine the one you have to fit the 01 balancer Don gave you.

One of my pulley bolts from JL broke off the head in the harmonic balancer! I had NO idea until I went to change the 3# out to a 6# after WFC...

Now I have the daunting task of trying to remove it with an EZ-out, but NO ROOM to do it

Not blaming JL, as I don't know if it was an issue with the origninal bolt, or it loosened/tightened over time, and popped. But I'm running around with a 6# pulley and 2 bolts holding it in until I have time to pull apart the front end to get at that $#%#@^ bolt.

Cool

I had a JLP 4# took it off putting the stock bolts back in and ran a caged 4#. I then put a JLP 5# on and never had a problem. Go figure.

I hope you get it straightened out.

Did you ever think that maybe just maybe you cross threaded the new bolt going in>??? If you are one of the first people to have a problem then I doubt it is the bolts. -Mat-
