You guys have pretty much always hit the mark with giving advice on subjects not only pertaining to our trucks, so I'll try this one. I'm going to buy a brand new Ducati. I've owned Japanese and Brit bikes before, but this will be my first Duc. Anyway, I can get a 01 996 for $12000 or a 02 998 for $14200. They say you get what you pay for, but is there that much difference between the two that I should go with the 998? I've done research, but would like to hear opinions from those who know. Thanks in advance. BTW, I can afford the additional $2200, but just barely.

 

You can buy a new 998 for around $14k, but if you are willing to look around you can find great deals on well takin care of Ducks here. I have seen 01 models for much closer to $10-$11k.

ya go to the website aryton listed and also check out clubdesmo.com.....ducatis are very cheap and if you look hard now is the time to get a great deal.....if you can afford it i would suggest the 998 because of the lack of problems with the rockers flaking and destroying cams...plus it is a year newer....but no matter what you buy make sure its yellow, definetly faster than red

 

Thanks, already have that site bookmarked. Both of these bikes are brand new from the dealer and come with full warranty and 1st year of service. The prices I gave are out the door and shipped to me.

I've seen some low-low mileage 996s go for pretty good prices around here. 2000-2001s for 9k or so....

 

$14200 for a new one is on the money so go for it.

 

Yes, I know it's a good deal, but so is the 996. The main issue I have is, not having any experience with Ducs, am i missing the boat by paying $12k for the 996 as opposed to getting the 998?

 

The rule of thumb with Ducatis is like Porsches....

Buy the newest model you can afford as each generation was improved over the previous.
