Relocated the Comp. Engineering D.S. Loop

After taking a look at the install again (been very busy doing other things lately, haven't had the chance to play around with the truck) I noticed that there's a hole rearward of the ones I chose to mount the loop originally. You all saw the pics I posted letting me know that it was too far forward. Thanks again for the input.

So the week before last I wrote a note to tech support at Comp. Engineering explaining that I posted pics of the installed loop here and that everyone said the loop was essentially useless. I sent along the install pics as well. I also mentioned the rearward hole and asked if that's the one the loop bar is designed to be mounted through. They came back and said yes, that's the one and that if my aftermarket muffler is too low and hangs below the frame rail that I'll need to shim the loop bar. Only other concern was whether or not the loop itself would fit between the Magnaflow and the gas tank. I wrote back thanking them for the quick response and mentioned that it would have been nice if they mentioned that it will not fit as-is with a non-stock exhaust system. I also asked what my recourse is if the loop doesn't fit between the muffler and gas tank. No response back to that one, of course.

So a couple of days ago I went ahead and relocated it rearward, shimmed it and installed it. Clearance is very close between the bar and the bottom of the Magnaflow as well as the loop being pretty close the lip of the gas tank. I've driven the truck about 75-100 miles in all conditions, hard being what I wanted to do most, and it hasn't moved nor does it rub or touch any other parts. So far so good. I haven't taken any pics because I want to re-think the shimming I used. I used a bunch of washers and longer bolts. It doesn't look too pretty but it's functional. I want to get a block of rubber and use that but I don't really have time to mess with it right now.

Long story short, if anyone is going to buy one of these, it's a nice piece. Take into conisderation aftermarket exhaust (which would be nice if Comp. mentioned it). Hey, what's the true meaning of 'bolt-on' anyway. Oh yeah...am I the ONLY one with one of these!!!!????

See ya'

Dan

Been running mine now for two weeks. Install was a breeze, and the location, 6" behind the front driveshaft flange is dead on. Don't know what holes you used 1st but the diagram and the instructions were also right on. The only thing I can see that could go wrong is to install it backwards, but the the loop is not centered over/under the driveshaft. Other than that, its a no brainer install and meets NHRA and IHRA requirements, which some do not. It also looks like a PSP copy in design and location, just a tad fancier is all

PS
I have installed two now, next?

Did you install on trucks with stock exhaust?

Thanks,

Dan

No, Bassani Cat Pipes, and JDM Silver Bullets. Just installed another one this evening and the bar was about 1/4" shorter which made the install take about 30 minutes, this one was with a stock exhaust system on a 02.

That's an aftermarket exhaust in the photo. If the mounting location is changed from above the frame rail to below it, you can get another 1-1.5" clearance (although the top of the loop may be dangerously close to the driveshaft then).

Thanks
