Difference between...

Well since I am most likely going to be ordering a nice amount of new mods for my truck within the next week, ( and JDM doesn't answer their emails apparently ) I thought I'd get one of my more obvious questions out of the way before I give JDM a call to talk to them directly. My new mods are going to be Electric Fan/Cobra Waterpump, JL Traction Bars, LT's, Hi flows & Midpipes (to connect to my Bassani CB) After careful deliberation I think I'll be going with the Kooks/JDM LT's, but what is the difference between the Stainless steel ones, and the jet hot coated ones? is one better than the other? Any input would be appreciated.

the stainless heat up the engine area more, the jethot are mild steel and will rust in time, but keep the engine area cooler.

i'd get the stainless and use thermal wrap

Where would I get thermal wrap, and are there any difference in performance between the two at all? So the coated ones with rust, over a short or long period of time?

Get the coated ones...........it will take a long time for them to rust. When I sold mine after a 1.5 years of use they still looked brand new.......not even discolored.

I was thinking about putting the header wrap on my truck also. Has anyone heard anything negative about it. Does it cause any trouble with the cats for instance? Also how far down should the wrap go.

I don't buy from companies that I can't reach. Nothing bugs me more than to have phone calls or e-mails un-answered by a business. No reason to reward that.

I've had good luck with both coated and stainless headers. They both should last for many years.

FYI header wrap isn't a good idea for a street car.

Typically the entire header is wrapped all the way out to the collector flange.

I have heard that header wrap greatly decreases the life of any header (coated or stainless) because it traps all heat and moisture against the header.

Shadow,

I haven't seen enough performance improvements posted to warrent spending THOUSANDS of dollars even on the best Kooks Headers and a S/S Exhuast. (BUT THATS ONLY MY OPINION)
If your shooting for 10's and low 11's I'm sure it's a good mod.
But my thought is for dam near the same price as the Headers and S/S Exhuast installed, I can buy a KB and bolt it on myself.

Without pointing a finger at any one Vendor, I will say I agree with you and Jody, I also DO NOT and WILL NOT deal with companys that do not answer my E-mails. I've giving lots of people more than one chance. And dont say, WHY DON'T YOU CALL THEM. Hello this is 2003, I can order a wife on the internet for Pete's sake. I've done 100% of my Xmas shopping for 4 yrs straight on the internet, bought all my cars, my House, my women, you name it. But when I can't order a L mod, THATS A PROBLEM

Why have a web site if your NOT going to answer e-mails ???

Rob,

Great point, and I agree with you wholeheartedly. i know calling is a more direct method of getting in touch with someone, but if they aren't going to take the time of day to acknowledge a buisness opportunity, then I can take it elsewhere. I mean, it is the 21st century, and emails just plain and simple should be answered just as phone calls. IMO. So what would you recommend I spend 1k+ dollars towards mods on then, other than headers, hi flows, and mid pipes. BTW, my truck is a Daily driver, and building the lower end isn't what I had in mind.

Headers if you want sounds and some power. If the price is just to much to justify spending on a full exaust, then go with a ... what do you already have aside from what you are going to order?

Stainless Steel will outlast the truck, but will raise underhood temps up noticable.

Jet Coated will keep temps down but will eventually rust.

As for companies emailing, I always prefer phone calls. In the overly large growing internet business, it can be very hard to keep up with incoming emails. Just at work alone I get so many emails that answering them takes up half my day. Not making excuses, just trying to give what things are like on the other end.

I'd go with Dynatech. REM's customer service is very good.

Even though this is the 21st century and e-mail seems to be the "in thing" it doesn't always work. Think about it.. you would have to be glued to the PC all day long and if you are doing that then you don't have time to do anything else. Hell I receive 100 plus e-mails a day business related only and don't alway have time to read them. I'm glued to this damn thing all day long, but I'm playing right now .

Call JDM so you can talk to a real person.

The stainless steel long tubes are better because they do hold the heat in as well if not better than coated one. If you don't beleive me look at Kook's Web site.

I agree that longtubes, although very expensive for Lightnings, are a good mod to have if you plan on making gobs of power in the future. Even though you may only see 15 rwhp from them now with your stock Eaton and a pulley, chip, etc. combo, I'm sure after slapping on a Works or KB, the LTs will be taken advantage of more.
