Another '03 Cobra Test Drive
I got a chance to roadcourse both my Lightning and the new Cobra... all I have to say on the cobra versus mach 1... not in the same playing field... easy as that.... My lightning put up numbers WAY better than ANY mach 1 that was at the event,... and the cobra put up numbers so far away from the mach 1, you wouldnt think they were on the same event... nuff said... Cobra is Cobra! Mach 1 is the "old" cobra motor, no built internals, boring wheels, and funky seats and guages...
COURSE THESE ARE JUST MY OPINIONS... NO FLAME

BTW, for the guy who was comparing the Mach 1 with the L and the Cobra on the road course..................BY NO MEANS, did I say that my car DOES compare to the other two on a dragstrip, road course, etc..................I was just pointing out my observations on my test drive..................I know that it is SUBSTANTIALLY easier and cheaper to modify an L or a Cobra to run WAAAAAAAAAAAY faster than a Mach 1 ever could, with little to no worries of blowing it up (well, maybe not the L.....
)..........I had one, remember!!!! I have a LOOOOOOOOOOONG way to go before the Mach 1 can even compare to my Lightning on a track. But to me, the fun factor of how my car sounds, and going thru my own gears, and having AT LEAST 4 or 5 people say "Wow, what's that" everytime you drive is worth it................and the fact that my interior is TOTALLY different than any other Mustang, adds to the fun factor.................No flames, no arguing..............just stating MY pov.BTW, Vinnnie, was that Vorteched Mach 1 at Englishtown this weekend???
jc
Ill tell ya what, ill take a Mach 1 or older sn95 Cobra equipped with a built turbo motor, SOLID REAR AXLE, Torque Arm, Panhard Bar and the rest of the Griggs suspension over any IRS equipped car anyday of the week.
I just wish and wish Griggs would open up and start making parts for our truck. Man, could you imagine the length of a T/A on our trucks? Full coilover setup..?

Actually that was going to be my second choice.
A Mach 1 that is.
We just picked up our 03' cobra last month, and haven't looked back, but the Mach was definitely appealing!
I think if I was going to build a newer car to drag, I would have opted for the Mach, but the cobra is more of an overall great performer.
It is about 6K more than the Mach, but if you updated the Mach's driveline to match the Cobra it would be about the same overall cost... Different cars though....
I really like the shaker hood on the Mach a lot, and some of the other appointments, but as you said, the Cobra's Whine is definitely awesome!
(BTW, if you remove the hood blanket, it is a bit louder!)
I have not done anything, aside from removing the silencer yet, but exhaust, and a CAI are in my future...
Oh and about the 6th gear.
On the freeway cruising at about 65 in 6th, you are turning about 1800RPM...
Can only imagine the MPG are fairly good at that rate...
Have not been on a trip yet to test this theory...
At least our trannies don't have that 1-4 skip shift like the LS-1's...
