Is the new F1 tread design worth the extra $160?
Is the new F1 tread design worth the extra $160?
I know the load rating is a little higher but only about 400 lbs. higher if I was told correctly. I went with the original tread design and saved the $160 difference. Whats the advantage supposed to be. Handling? Traction? Anyone heard the Goodyear sales pitch?
Well my tires have 295/45ZR/18 wrote right on them for my 03. (the ones I got Thursday from Tire Rack)
You guys are probably right bout the $160 extra, but for what ever reason, I thought I'd go ahead and get what was on my 03, instead of the 02. They might be better, they might not be. For me I spent the extra 160 for my 03's and I'm a happy camper with the tires. It's only 40 bucks extra for each tire. 40 bucks a tire was no big deal to me for the peace of mine that I now have. But that is just MO. Do what is best for you, I say. Either way you cann't go wrong at these prices!!
Cliff your the MAN, for helping us L owners out on this GREAT deal for our tires!!!!

Save your money. If an 1880 lb load rating was good enough from 99-01, why isn't it good enough now? The 2200 lb rated F1's gonna last longer? You gonna haul more stuff? You know anyone that had a problem with the old F1's other than wear?
Dame Cliff YOU DA MAN!!!! Thanks for my lower gift.
Harold
P.S. From what I hear, the older F-1's are not going to made any more. (Gosh I hope I have that right) So you spend a little now, or a LOT more later. Each there own, I say.

new F1 tread design worth the extra $160?
Well, my concern if I were you guys and buying a full set of the older style F1's would be this......... You install all 4 new and you run them. They are great and you saved a few bucks. Now, a couple of months later (you can no longer get the old style F1) and you hit something in the road (spike, glass, sharp metal, etc.) and you tear up one of your F1's .... it is unusuable. (or you do too many burnouts and kill 2 tires) NOW, you have 3 older style F1's and you can not easily / quickly get an older F1 for replacement. Hmmmm, if you put a single, new style on it looks like crap and is the handling affected... Sure you can check out eBAY and make lots of calls and probably come up with an older style F1 in a few days....... hmmm, time is money and who has the time...... Now, if you buy the newer style F1's you will not have a problem getting that single replacement tire. By the way, I had this happen with my last truck. Some ******* ran into the side of my '01 Dodge QC. Damaged one tire. Tires/style with sidewall print were no longer available.. I had to buy all 4 new tires so I had 4 the same. Fortunately, the other guys insurance gave me enough where I did not get burn't to bad in the 4 tire purchase. I know better now. Nope, I would not buy a tire that would not be available in the future even if I save a few $...... unless I bought a couple of extras of that old style BUT then you got to worry if they will dry rot, or you will just never use them and you will again be out the $. Naaah, I will stick to buying tires that will be available in the forseeable future.
Good points ...
The load rating is the only difference, and there
aren't going to be any more of the old F1's ...
So buy 'em up so we can burn 'em up ...
Just like the "I drive to fast to worry about Cholesterol"
saying, tires are not gonna be long on Christine!!!!

MM,
You're certaily welcone ... It was a snap to get 2" outta that
truck ... even a half drunk half a##ed mechanic can do it ...
It just took a bit longer than I planned ... Then I cam home to
a neighborhood driveway party and drank Rattlesnakes 'til 4:00 AM
See ya ...
