Question How Much Boost before Boom

Junior Member here, probably asking a question that has been asked many times.

I am the proud owner of a new 03 Lightning! Here are the mods I am planning, all parts have been ordered and are on their way.

KB twin screw and chip
Johnny cold air induction
Bassani cat back (spelling ?)
Denso 22's
Valve Body for Trans
Traction Bars
Deep trans pan
Rear lowering shackles
Drive shaft loop

Thinking about the 90 mm throttle body?

I have been told the following:

From KB, stay around 14 lbs of boost unless going to higher octane.

Lightning tuners tell me stay under 16 lbs unless you are planning a lower end up grade.

I need to hear from you, the experienced ones - How far can I push the boost with the understanding that at this point I am not planning a lower end upgrade, but I am willing to move to 100 octane? My L will be used for weekends and the occassional shot at the track.

THANKS

I am not going to be able to get back to my email until tomorrow so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Dan,

Congrats on the new truck, you will love. I just as excited about mine as the day I got it (10/17/01).

Sorry I'm not an "experienced one" since I'm pretty much stock.
Hopefully someone else here can help you out.
But I can tell you that the Gregg Evan's Factory Tech Valve Body is frigg'n awesome
I love it!

What color is you 03? I'm in Bonita, I just met a nice guy with a 2000 Silver L the other night in San Carlos, funny his name is Dan also.
See you around...

-James

Aw, hell's bells, throw a 10# pulley on that sucker and lets see if Ford put decent rods in the '03s.

Actually, I was being facetious, as I am sure you are aware. But I tried to send you a serious reply via e-mail and was informed that you had disabled that feature. I don't know why you would do that if you want answers to your questions, at least from those of us who are reluctant to start pi$$ing contests on the board.

James, thanks for the message.

She's a black beauty and I can't wait to add my mods and get her on the track. The guys on this sight are awesome and have helped me through the decisions of what to buy and not to buy. I am just stuck on how far I can push it?

Hey do you belong to the SVTOA club? and have you been to the third Tuesday of every month events at Galloways?

I couldn't hook up with anyone this week, but I am hoping to meet local owners next month?

Let me know what you know.

Thanks, Dan

I heard Greg's valve body gave you an excellent hard shift and I am very glad to hear you think it is worth the money.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude, failed to notice how new you were. Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the Lightning community. Just open your user control panel and click on "Edit Options". Under "Hide E-mail Address?" click on "No", and under "Enable Private Messaging?" click on "Yes". Now people can contact you privately, should they wish.

The answer to your question is not how much boost you can run but rather how agressive of a tune you run and actually how you run your truck. Your truck probably would do well with around 18#'s of boost with a mild tune and no 140mph wide open blasts. JL I think is running a KB on his Harley with 23#'s of boost on the stock bottom end with no trouble at all.

Hankfan,

Does the "tune" relate to the KB chip that I am buying with the supercharger? How do you determine a "mild" tune?

Dan

Damn Dan,
Your going all out right out of the hole.

You already have a 90mm MAF. I think you meant a single blade TB.

You will want a duel chip with 100 octane fuel, and pump gas.
