Unhappy Help! Ran into a little snag when changing spark plugs

OK, I got all of the plugs in, and in less than 3 hours (with all the originals nice and tight on a 2000 with 18000 miles and never been checked), but I can't get the bolt that holds the coil pack on the driverside second from the front back in. It was in all the way when i started, but now when i try to get it in it will not finger tighten like all the others and when i put the wrench on it, it stops turning with about an eighth of an inch still unthreaded and the coil pack is not tight. I have worked on this one bolt for at least a half an hour, putting it in this way and that way and have had no luck. I'm guessing i cross threaded it, but i don't see how i could not have with the way it is to get it out and back in and not being able to finger tighten it first. If anyone has any ideas about this I would love to hear them.

Thanx,
Bill

Try removing one of the other ones--the easiest one for you. Remove the 'bad' one and try threading the other one in that 'bad' hole. If the threads in the head are crossed, you may be able to clean them up with the other bolt and then try the 'bad' bolt in the 'easy' hole.

Were/are all the bolts the same length? I assume they are.
Also if the "good" bolt does not clean out the hole, you could run a tap in it to possibly fix it.
Also, could something have dropped in the hole and is now preventing the bolt from going all the way in?
Either way, good luck and let us know how it goes.

Try what LightningRod said.....change bolts with another coil pack....I had the same problem with my driver side rear(of course)...and I had to mess with it for a while. Just relax and take a break...that works best for me!

Good luck

Re-tapping may be your only option if the clean bolt
doesn't go in either ... It is VERY easy to cross thread
these bolts in the aluminum heads.

I had to re-tap about three of mine after somebody
changed my plugs.

I tried the bolt from the next coil pack after this happened and it did the same thing in the same spot. I also tried to blow air with a can of compressed air that i was using to blow out the sparkplug holes in the hole and still no good, I also tried some wd40 and still no good. My relaxing is that i had to go to my night class so that took me away for awhile, and i swear i was taking my time and trying to be patient, I didn't care if it took 12 hours just as long as nothing went wrong but it did anyway . How do i run a tap, i've never done that before, but it sounds like my next logical step, and i think i will try another bolt while i am waiting for some replies. I should definately not try to put any grunt on this bolt right?. Thanx for the advice and tips guys.

Why don't you just put a washer under it to take up the extra space IF ALL ELSE FAILS.

You know the saying
The right way
Wrong Way
AND MY WAY

Come on Rob!
Run a tap through it. Do it the CORRECT WAY 00 SVT TOY. You'll be much happier in the long run. Do it Rob's way if you stranded and need to get it home. Like if your:
Running the Baja 1000
or
Running from your Ex
or
Running from your present to-be Ex
or
Running to your next to-be Ex for some

Alright here is what's up now, I took a bolt from another hole and put the one i have been trying into that hole just fine. I took a small screw driver and was able to stick it all the way down into the hole, and i tried to blow it out again with compressed air. Then, with the coil pack pushed out off the way i stuck the good bolt in that hole and screwed it down until it got tight then i pulled it out and tried to screw it back in with the coil pack in place, it goes in a little further but it is still not far enough in before it gets tight in the hole, and when i pulled the bolt out there is black/grey stuff between the threads for about a half an inch up from the tip. Sounds like i need to run a tap so... how do I run a tap, what do i do and what EXACTLY do i need to get from the parts store, i've never had to do this before. Let me know please or any other tips, and thanx again for the advice and help.

Would say get the size tap needed, but I have no idea what size it is. Take the bolt with you, have them get the same size, thread type (sae or metric), you'll need the handle that attaches to the tap. Remember to use some oil on the tap and make sure you start it atraight.
Screw it in, back it out, clean out the bolt hole w/ compressed air, bolt should go all the way in.
Easy to do, but a pain when you have to stop in the middle of doing the job.

Toy, you simply buy a tap (correct size) and squirt a little oil in the threads, screw it in by hand, then connect a Tee Handle
(or something) to it and turn it down creating "or re-tapping" threads.

Lightbulb Here's what I would do.

Get yourself a nice strong 1/2" impact gun. Run some extensions and a few adapter and just pull the trigger until that sucker goes in all the way!

Nah but seriously, a tap is easy to use screw it in like you are tightening a bolt the back out and few turns then back in and so forth until you did the whole hole. Pretty easy. -Mat-

How about when you break the screw off in the hole?
