I thought some of you might be interested in seeing what Ford is telling its dealers. I hope you find it informative.

So thats Ford's battle plan. Turn you into the Smog Police for air filter and exhaust work. Nothing like a $31,500 fine to scare the crap out of ya

Think I'll just leave my truck stock..................hear that ford

but you notice that they never say that they will cancel the warranty. They say "may be cause for non-coverage"

Im sure they had their legal team going through that document.

I think I'll go in for my cracked foglight problem, but before I go I'll put on and old set of meats and as I leave...

NO WAY. Racing? That will hurt my truck too much. I never even go above 65 mph and my tach never sees more than 4k rpms....

Actually, from what I understand of the document, it is stating that the dealer could be liable for the fine if they installed non compliant emmision parts. This has been in effect for some time, as exhaust shops won't (or shouldn't) alter the stock exhaust system (removing cats) as they can be fined big time for such a violation. Car owners can be found in violation if they were to go through a DEQ inspection. It wouldn't surprise me if the government were to force repair shops (independent and dealerships) to report any violations or find themselves in possible violation.

I understand Ford is in the middle of a financial crisis, but what is going to hurt them more, having to warrant some engines and trannies, or the fact that a LOT of performance enthusiasts will simply STOP BUYING FORD VEHICLES?!

I'm pretty sure it is the latter of the two.

But the vehicles are already bought NOW, and will show up on P&L reports now. Screw the future, it's about the profits now.

reguardless of what FORD says......

You know they love having the bad@ss Cobra and Lightnings
that are modified, running the awesome and often published
incredible performance numbers, tickles them pink.

....another thing...
I could never fully understand why they never had good gear
ratios in the Stangs and such right from the factory.
I mean now 3.55s are getting to be regular, but back when I
started out if you got 3.08s instead of 2.73s you were lucky.
..and makin chump change in the late 80s, early 90s gears were
a major purchase.

I realize their entire fleet has to meet gasoline mileage
standards, but if the put say 3.73s in the 96-01 Cobras
those cars would have ran 13.0s-13.4s from the factory in
a good driver's hands...instead of 13.5-13.9s. ..and it would
be one less needed mod people would have to worry about
and spend $250-$400 on. JMO...

Another idea I had was sell me a new Cobra with no warranty,
but have it spooled up, exhausted, computer enhanced 85%
maxxed out and have me sign a waiver, and charge me $5k less
than the regular warrantied ones.....but still pass emissions, then
the only thing you have to do is modify exhaust or whatever to
free up 30hp? more or so....and it's on me.
..............then again.....that isn't feasible and wouldn't fly???
..but a FORD tuned 500hp beast would be nice and bulletproof.
I guess if the Cobra Rs weren't cut loose bad @ss racers, why
would this idea even be considered....it wouldn't. The price and scarecity, and the dealer mark-ups on the 00 Rs, one would think
they could have run 11s from the factory???? JMO again

later..guys..
