EGR Excessive Flow

I have an SES that comes and goes. I ferget the exact code, but the error is 'EGR Excessive flow detected'. It was suggested to me that I may have a pinhole in my EGR tube due to heating/bending for header install.

1) Anything else that it could be, how how to check/fix.
2) How could I test my EGR tube for a pinhole, and then fix it if I find it (JB Weld?)

Thanks,
Eric

I think(?) that you(or someone) is looking at this code/problem backwards. Why would a pin-hole allowing more air 'out' be anything but an exhaust leak?

I think you have a leaky(stuck open) or weak(not holding the closed position) EGR valve. For some of the same reasons, the sensor(DFBE?--can't remember the letters) that controls the EGR valve.

See "Possible causes of too much EGR":

Wouldn't that be excessive flow in? Doesn't EGR take exhaust *in*?

Which headers did you install that required heating/bending of the EGR tube? From experience, I know the KOOKS don't require it.

That of course is entirely possible. How do I test to verify the EGR valve is in fact bad, (short of complete replacement, and saying 'yep it went away').

Don't remember.

I was at JDM's getting a custom tune and it showed up on Jim's scan tool. Next day and $70 it was all fixed

Yeah, i have a scan tool and the codes don't state the egr is bad, just that it has 'excessive flow'. which of course could mean it's bad, or it's got something stuck in it (how to clear?), or whatever.

EGR Excessive Flow

Years ago, I ran a Women's clinic at a correctional facility in Northern California. Did alot of breast checks and pelvics. Used to have women complaining of "excessive flow" on occasion. NOW, after all these years I understand what the hey they were talking about.
