Question LED Pictures

Ok, I had posted a thead two weeks ago https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...hreadid=118312 about replacing the tail light bulbs with an array or panel of LED's and I was wondering if anyone has had a chance to take a picture of their modified tail light assemblies. Maybe someone by the name of AutoPCSystems , haha. No, but if anyone has pictures or additional info that would be great! Thanks!

Kyle

I work with LEDs here at my company (we make electronic signs), the easiest thing for you to use would be a socketed cluster. You can get pre-made clusters that are designed for your fixture type...most of them can be found in trucks mags but I cant tell you if they are super bright or anything...otherwise do a search for "LED Cluster" online and you should be able to find something to adapt...you would need to match the total cluster voltage though to the trucks 12 volts... (ie. through resistors, depending on the count of actual LEDs in the cluster)

I was thinking about mounting a 4 inch round LED cluster that is being used on semi trailers. I was going to cut off the back of the tail light fixture and glue it into place but then AutoPCSystems said that he used a larger 6 inch diameter cluster so I was woundering how he mounted it and what it looked like. The reason that I was going to go with a 4 inch was because of the side cut out on the fixture, you know that part that is cut out so that you can see the bulb from the side. The other reason that i was going to go with these permanufactured cluster was cause they are already wired up to plug right in without adding resistors and other crap. Soo.. I just need some idea on how much of the fixture i should cut off to mount the cluster in the fixture. Sooo..

you could do it that way, I was thinking of a slightly more complicated, but unique way...what your talking about is a pre-existing tail light fixture..not just a bulb or a led cluster, since they come with ribbon cables on them, not regular wire...but maybe I have mis-read you, I have been drinking tonight

I was thinking something like this Link which measure 7 inches including the outside case. So, if I took the case off, cut the tail light fixture so that it's flat then glue the circuit board with the LED's into place and seal up the back of it.

So, does this sound like a good idea or should i just try to build one by hand?

I dont see a reason why it wouldnt work, you would have to be sure to seal both the pcb and the tail light housing itself very well if your going to take the backing off that pre-made fixture. You could use a hard resin to seal the pcb portion with no problem.

It sounds like a much easier idea and less work in general to modify that one you linked to
