great

Ford made a mistake, and they took responsibility. This is the way it should be. Kudos to ford and good luck with the truck Jerry!!!

First I want to thank everyone for the kind words.

The thing that gets me is that everyone that looked at the truck or the pics knew the chip (or any other mod) did not cause this damage, but the Ford people still insisted it was a chip related failure. Why are they doing this? Don't they want to keep me as a customer? They KNOW we as SVT owners ARE going to mod our trucks! If they had just put in h-beam rods in the L in 01 (and raised the price to pay for them) they would have saved tens of thousands of dollars in motors they paid for. I was never a fan of Ford, and then I buy the 99 L and I become a big Ford fan. In fact I have personally sold two of my friends on Fords that would have NEVER considered one before talking to me about my 99. One bought an 03 L and the other bought a 02 Harley (after what has happened with my 03 they are very woried about the trucks they bought). When it comes to my next purchase, I can't say at this point if I will ever buy another Ford. Even though I love driving it more than anything I have ever owned in 30 years of driving performance cars (hell I have over $7000.00 in aftermarket parts on it or ready to go on it)! Looks like to me that Ford is running off customers that it needs to survive. At 45 I make a good living and can afford to spend more money than I should on vehicles that Ford can make more money on than a regular vehicle.

In my business (precision sheet metal) if we make a mistake we have to give our customers a corrective action report (what we are going to do to keep this from happening in the future). Maybe I should ask for one from Ford.

Last, I must tell you that the people at Leif Johnson Ford in Austin are the BEST. I don't mean just one or two guy's but every single person I've delt with so far. They all thought Ford was trying to stick it to me and tried to help all they could. Customer service is just about dead in this country but these people (and Sal @ PSP) live it every day!

That's good news Jerry!

I think the reason they took the stance they did was because the symptom of "scored cylinder wall" sounds like a chip ran a cylinder lean. At that point you were "Guilty until proven innocent". But when an experienced eye looked at that cylinder it was obvious what the problem wasn't. Only a teardown could prove you innocent.

How are they going to fix it? A whole new crate motor, from oil pan to supercharger, would be nice!

I am there with you Jerry. i was never a ford fan until the lightning. now i know modmotors inside out. i am glad they fixed everything right. they should have just pulled the motor apart in the first place to check. and i would too pay the extra dough for a set of nice h-beams from the factory, it should be an option

The dealership is recomending to Ford that they send a complete new motor, oil pan to supercharger. We will see what Ford does in the next day or so. Since the metal from the cylender is all through the motor I really do not want just a short block. I wish I could pay the difference for a built bottom but we all know Ford is not going to go for that.

If Ford does send you a new complete motor, do you think it would be money well spent to have a set (you pay) of Maneys installed?

Jerry - Ford could have thrown those rods in our trucks and not raise the price at all and still make hefty profits on these trucks.

I don't think Ford would let me install (or them install) new rods in their motor and then still warranty the rest of the motor. What if I did that and then it drops a valve and they try to blame it on the rods? Sounds about as plausable as my chip causing a gouge in the cylinder wall!

As you know I am building my beast! My master engine builder who builds dragsters and Stock cars set my right bank timing off 3 links! Yes thats right 3 links... That cause 4 damaged pistons, 3 broken rockers 7 bent valves!!!
The are covered the repair 100% but I have now been with out my truck for 6 months! I will have it finished by this weekend and try it out Sat.

Suavy

I wouldn't call him a master engine builder then
