Isn't the loop supposed to be back further?

I'm not 100% for sure about NHRA rules(I think the loop is supposed to be between the universal joint and the first 6 inches of the drive line) but I think common sense says that if your universal joint breaks that drive line is still going to beat the **** out of your truck.

Leonard is 100% right. That loop is pretty much useless. The U is supposed to be behind the u-joint, and no more than 6" back. If your U-joint fails, that loop will do nothing. And it doesn't look like you can move it back anymore, or it will hit the exhaust. I hate to be one of those "I told you so" people, but sometimes you gotta stay away from the inexpensive, mass produced, large company parts, and stick with what the Lightning specialty shops make.

Not Laughing at Dman, but at Sals, "I told ya"

Dman, the loop prevents the driveshaft from digging into the ground and flipping your truck if the U-joint breaks, or atleast keeping the driveshaft from beating the sh*t out of your truck

The trucks don't have to be "heavily" modded for this to happen. Just some sticky tires and traction.

The Driveshaft will keep you truck from Pole Vaulting...if the front u-joint fails and your moving along at a good speed.
It can cause you to lose control of the vehicle.

as a minimum, It will preserve your shaft and prevent the it from dropping to the ground if the U joint fails.
Usually when the front u-joint fails, the shaft drop to the ground and snap or twist, then the remaining portion will dig in the ground and twist your differential housing.
Worse case scenario is the shaft hits the tank or damages something else underneith the truck.

for $75 or so you can go wrong with a drive shaft loop.

Thumbs up

FYI: You can make your own for under $40. I did and got all my stuff at home depot as well.

Just buy a 1.5 x 0.25 flat steel stip 4ft long.
A 4ft long 1.25 square steel tube.
4 grade 5 bolts and lock nuts.

then go home and get some dirt under your fingernails.

WOT

Just FYI, those materials are not legal for an NHRA approved driveshaft loop. I really don't understand why people are so bent on going all these different routes on items that are readily available from any of the vendors, and are CORRECT.

its great to build things yourself, and save a little money, but why on something as important as this??

dunno, maybe it is easier then i thought, and just AS safe?

...just dimond plate the whole bottom of the truck!

This is no flame or bash towards Dan but what made you look towards this loop in the first place? It does look nice but wasn't it the same price as the PSP or JLP unit? I think I picked mine up from JLP for 60 bucks or so....

I've supported probably every vendor on this site. And that's no exaggeration. It's not like I was looking to save a buck on a mass produced item as I probably paid more for this loop than what I would have paid from an "L" vendor. I wasn't trying to cut corners. And it took a month and a half to get it because they just started making them. As is the case with large performance parts distributors manufacturing Lightning parts = They just don't make 'em yet because they're not sure if there's a solid market for them (although by now, they oughta know). Just think about how the 5.0 guys felt in the late 80's, early 90's before the mass aftermarket stuff started being produced. They dealt with 5.0 specific vendors. Nothing wrong with that. Just have to realize that eventually the big manufacturers are going to get involved in making some $$. I simply thought, "Hey..Moroso has been around for a long time, as well as Comp. Engineering. Let me give this product a shot. Based on photos on their website, it looked like a nice piece, as was agreed to by most people who saw the initial pics of it. I know there are products out there offered by "L" specific vendors, who, by the way, I've already done business with, that are definite matches, but hey, if noone ever tries new vendors, how do they get any business..." Note to self done.

So hey, you guys say it's worthless and doesn't meet specs, I believe it. Live and learn. I've never had, nor required a D.S. loop before. I'll remove it and send it back. Call me a guinea pig. Hopefully Comp. will learn from this and make the corrections needed so the next guy that orders one of these doesn't have to go through this.

I appreciate the feedback.

See ya'
