"L" Trailer Hitch, End Socket Connector
"L" Trailer Hitch, End Socket Connector
I've had my '03 Dark Shadow Gray L for a few weeks now. Great truck! Anyway, I tow a trailer weekly loaded with 3 ATV's so removing the truck's hitch and end Socket Connectors just to the left of the hitch was out of the question. Can tell you I did not like the way the end socket connectors stuck out on the back of my L like a very sore thumb. Anyway, I crawled under there the other day and noted the bracket for the end socket connectors was long and that I could easily redrill the mounting hole so the end socket connectors would set back 4 inchs from where they resided on a stock L and not stand out so much. I easily drilled a new hole in the bracket and remounted the end socket connector bracket. Did not even have ot remove anything from the bracket itself.
Geeeez, what a difference in appearance 4" back makes. By the way, the bracket relocation does not interfer with anything to include lowering the spare tire. Time to do this little redo was about 10 minutes and well worth the time.

No drilling needed. Just pop out the connector(btw remove the grey plastic piece and then lift the tab. I didn't on the tab, lesson learned). Now turn the bracket 180 degrees around and bolt it in and replug the socket still facing towards the rear. It slightly could impede the spare but it could easily be bent very slightly to clear the tire.
Hey I am always looking for the easy way. If you need pics I can get them.

Well, here's some pics. Really hard to get an angle where you can see that the thing is now set back 4 inches. Raining out today so L is dirty....

180 would be facing the front... ?
well all i did was loosen the nut, spin the thing around to face the front, reinstall nut.. from back of truck, you would never know it was there.. pulling a trailer, get down and just plug it in.... oh the horror of having to bend down!!!
No worries any longer, as i have the Harley Trucrk now, and roll pan going on... equals = "i ain't pullin' a damn thing!"

and that was it,,,, the end Socket Connectors do not stick out like a sore thumb and YES, are still easy to get to. They also do not impede the spare and YUP, I don't have to bend down and under and fumble and... Hmmm, to each his own. I'll stick with my way and I am not saying it is the only or best way.

You guys are making this too hard.
Step 1. Open beer.
Step 2. Remove trailer connection by removing screws that attach it to the bracket.
Step 3. Take another sip.
Step 4. Remove Grey tab on plug and then pry lock tab back gently and pull on wires. BTW #4 could be done before #2. (slow down on the beer.)
Step 5. Now unbolt plate and turn 180 degrees. Re-bolt.
Step 6. Re-assemble trailer connection facing towards rear of truck so you can get at it.
You guys are losing me on this.. Turning the bracket 180 degrees leaves the connector facing to the side. Everytime you go to connect
I think this pic will help
