Magnaflow catback install and pics.
I finally have some pics of my new maggy catback. I'll make some sound clips once it's nice and broken in.
The install went well. The easiest way to tackle it will be to remove the ground effects by the exhaust. I then removed all the clamps, and left the connection from the midpipes to catback to soak in some liquid wrench for a couple hours.
Once i came back, I undid the hangers by using some spray lubricant on them and they slid right off. The spray lube makes it a lot easier.
Make sure the stock exhaust is broken loose first by wiggling it back and forth and making sure that it's not still stuck on the catpipes. My first attempt was using ratcheting straps to pull off the stock exhaust. I was at the point of almost breaking the straps and nothing, the catback didnt budge an inch. It was time to bring out the big guns. Being I have no welders, torches, cutters, etc, this was our last resort:
I pulled out the lightning and the expy into the street, the rear ends facing each other. WE turned off the L, set the parking brake, and i had my friend sit in it with his foot on the brakes.
We hooked one end of the straps to the Expedition's hitch, and tied the other to the catback. after a couple tries on where to tie the straps to the catback and a few attempts at pulling, here's what you need to know if you attempt a similar method:
Make sure someone is sitting in the Lightning with the brakes on. The first pull we did yanked the lightning by the catback and we drug the truck a few feet. having the extra clamping force of the brakes helps a lot. When you do this, one of the catback pies is sure to pop off before the other. Once one has popped off, remove one of the two straps usied for pulling, and tie the other one around the base of the pipe at the muffler. Using this method, it took us all of five minutes to pop off the stocker. Make sure you use something with a lot of torque and a strong hitch.
The new magnaflow went on easy, but I left all the bubblewrap on the muffler and tips until everything was in place. this keeps the polished finish and everything nice.
Here are some quick pics of it in my garage in crappy light. Maybe when it gets nice out I'll take some more.
