Is anybody running an upper pulley only?

I haven't heard of too many people having an upper pulley as one of their first mods or as an only mod, is there a reason? I'm considering getting an upper pulley and nothing else for a while. Is there a reason I shouldn't do this, or anything I should know before I do?

Thanks

Seriously considering it. I don;t have a chip though, and I want to make sure that's not a problem first.

An upper pulley was the ticket when these first came out. You can only go about 2lbs on the upper cause the snout is so big. At the time, that was major boost dude! Also, its kinda harder, as you have to pull the snout off your eaton and press the pulley on and off, and it can do damage if you mess up. I would go with a interchangable lower. I garentee eventually you will want more boost, and the lower is the better alternative, besides, it takes away a lot of rotating mass. Have you ever looked at that spinning abortion you have down there?!! It also is a little more stealth, cause its harder to see.

Upper pulley

I got down to 12.34 with a JDM 1 1/2 pound upper pulley back in 2001, but now I'm running a 8 pound lower and a stock upper pulley. An upper pulley is a nice upgrade over stock, it depends on how far you wanna go, John H.

You won't have a problem doing the upper pulley without a chip.

I heard a smaller upper pulley stresses the stock Eaton out more than a lower pulley? Even if the pulley adds the same amount of extra boost? Is there any truth to this?

I've been running a upper pulley since my truck was a few weeks old. The reason you don't see that as the only Mod is because it's not enough extra Boost. As we learned more about the L and had more Plugs and tunes available, it now seems that we can run as much as 6lbs of extra Boost on a daily driver fairly safe, so most people end up changing the bottom anyway. I wouldn't have it any other way than a 4lb lower and a quick change upper.
it gives me flexibility and the option to add or take away 2 lbs in a matter of a minute or two I LOVE THE UPPER MOD.

And you DO NOT have to take off your snout. You just need the correct puller tool

My bad. I was under the impression that you did have to remove it. I've never done an upper, thats just what I heard.
