Exclamation Wow, about as fast as my truck!

At least on the street!

Went to take a look at the new EVO VIIs and I am impressed!! They had 3 in the showroom: sonic blue (or whatever they name it), yellow, and white. All had the CF spoiler but the salesman told me it takes forever to order one with the smaller spoiler. The car is very clean looking. Sexy Brembos all around, 17 inch Enkei wheels with Yokohama rubber. Recaros on the inside with faux-aluminum dashtrim. The white one was already loaded with CF pedals, a CF shift ****, and a strut tower brace and rear frame brace. The exhaust was nice and subtle, not ricey like I expected at all. Oh yea, and a Momo steering wheel.

All in all a very nice car that I would snap up for a daily driver in a second if given the chance (and money).

Of course, I drove my truck there and it was a conversation piece. I told him I had heard a lot about these cars and was coming in to take a look at one in person. The sales guy was pretty nice and semi-knowledgeable about the car and told me with the AWD it would probably beat my truck on the street. He also told me they were covering most of the BPUs under warranty no questions asked, which I didn't know what to believe. He also told me they run 18 psi stock from the factory, but that the little motors can handle up to 24 psi no problem? Again, not familiar with the car so I just nodded.

But the truth is, I don't think I could beat one on the street. I definitely can't out-handle it in the curves. And even at the track, I know that it can do a lot of damage with a few simple mods.

I left feeling almost inadequate so I had to leave a long black strip of rubber coming out of the parking lot to reassure myself...

Check out their site. I did a search, those EVOs are NICE looking. I actually like them a lot. And the on you are talking about Cyn, come with the 365 h/p or what ever it was? They have the 'Lancer EVO' on the site, but has only 275 or something like that. The one your talking about, I found some sites, the 2003, talking about VII (Extreme) with like 365 h/p. 0-60 in 4.3 seconds, 0-100 in like 11.3 seconds? Crazy. Plus they actually look very sharp. I like the fx kit in the front. Mmm...

Comes down to driver bro. I lightly modded L will smoke one of these things. Ive ran into 2 already, one that was BPU'd the other stock. Im not very modded and took them down with ease.

Also smoked a modded WRX last night at the track... AWD means nothing as he only pulled a 2.4 on street tires

Dont fear it, fry it baby!

from what i have seen those cars come out of the hole fast because of the AWD but then fall flat on there faces. only reason they get good 0-60 is cause of there launch. they are quick...don't get me wrong. but they are just not all they are cracked up to be in straightline performance. now in the twisties....thats a different story...

They run low-mid 13s in stock trim

As for the "Extreme" version I have not heard anything about that. Are you talking about the Ralliart Tommy Makinen Edition? Those things rock but they are like 50 Gs....

FYI, its the EVO VIII (8 not 7)

I dont believe the EVO 7 was ever available as a production car in North America.

BUt the evo 8 has a 2.0 liter 271 hp 273 ft-lb. and they are bad *** hell, i was reading somewhere, they reprogramed the computer and got it up to 300 hp, so that one can actually keep up or even be faster than an 03 cobra cause they raced each other.

The EVO is running with the big dogs. Check out the article on top speeds in the latest Motor Trend.

Yep I saw that. They squeezed a 13.08 out of it didn't they? Pretty impressive for a 2.0 liter!

my point simply being if it was a rear wheel drive car it would not break into the 13's. ergo it would be a 14 second car....aka, not very quick.

but hey, thats just like my oppinion

EDIT: AWD launches make cars seem like they are quicker than they are. but i am talking more about street than track...

Nah I think it can knock down 13s pretty easily. You have to realize these little cars weigh very little. What are the torque numbers on them though? I would that tranny wouldn't hold up with 5k rpm clutch dumps and the AWD hooking like mad....

Hope that 5-spd holds up.

Although I know some of the Mitsu's have horrible quality issues (the 3000gt vr4 comes to mind), I've heard these suckers are pretty durable.

I wanna see the new STi now. My local Subie dealership had a black one at a tent show/sale but I couldn't make it.

i saw a brand new STI on the street the other day about a block from my local suby dealer. looked silly in my oppinion. rear wing was ugly. but its alright, since it hauls ***!

go to www.evolutionm.net

they have a pretty good evo forum. some have reported frying clutches early...but for the most they are holding up. if you dump all the time like you said...it won't last that long.

I ran one from about 50 mph and it wasnt even close. My best 1/4 to date is a 13.2 so I'm not even fast compared to most of the ppl on the boards. A friend of mine was tailing us in a stock (non-STi) WRX and was almost able to hang with the evo. He got slowly walked but not nearly as bad as the evo got beat.
