I believe LightningTuner is right on this one. I too, had my PCM re-flashed. Once this had been done it wouldn't run with my SuperChips (I have two). I had the chips re-burned to the new ECM parameters and all is well. The only problem is that I had to have two chips reburned.

The PCM may cost $250, but the dealer has to program that box for the pats system so the price is probably higher. Plus most dealers rip people off anyway.
yeah,, or any locksmith can program the pats for $40,

Hey guys...what do you mean I can have a locksmith program the pats???

-I was under the impression that I'd get a new PCm...pop it in and all is well....what does the dealer need to do that makes this cost me $800 bucks?

-I am really considering selling my lightning after all the hell they've put me through today. I don't even know how I'm going to pay for the work.

I think if it were me I would get to the dealerchip so I could talk to them in person. I would remove the chip and have them recheck it. If the PCM is fried, and you will have to pay for one, have them order it and install it yourself. Have a locksmith handle the PATS.

We need to know about things like the P0605 if were going to mod our trucks.

I'm dumb...what is PATS? The security anti-theft system? What can a locksmith do for me?

-I did find something interesting...I brought my truck to a different dealer 2 months ago and I forgot to explain that I had a chip because my check engine light was on and they replace the IAC and intake gasket...so they had to run a pcm test then...why didn't it blow then and why is it blowing up now?

Sorry about your trouble. I just moved to northern VA. You mind telling me the name of the dealerships you're dealing with? You could email if you prefer. Thanks, and good luck.

Update

Well I went to see th GM of the dealer on Sat. and he was there but "no where to be found."

-Anyway I'm still fighting this. Not only do I have the above facts listed but I also specifically told my service writer to have the tech call me before working on my truck. It even says so on the work ticket. I only got a call after the fact my PCM had been blown to bits.

-Service writer says "why didn't you tell ME you had a chip." I woulda had the tech take it off and run tests." WTF...your contradicting a Ford rule by working on my car when you know it's modded then.

-He goes on to say that they will eat the costs and labor of a new one if I'm serious about buying a new L from that dealership. He says it's the only thing that might save you..This is almost like blackmail. Yeah like I'm gonna buy another Ford from you f'ers.

I'm not shelling out 800 cause you guys F'ed up. I will keep goin to the top if I have to. I'll keep you updated.

I have no clue what they actually did - BUT - I have an NGS tester just like the dealers have and I use it on my truck ALL The time with the chip attached. Unless they tried to do something whacky like flash your PCM or something else I cant see how hooking up an NGS or similar device would fry the PCM because you had a chip in it ... Since you have a 2000 with CUX2 there is NO good reason to flash your PCM since there is NO upgrade for CUX2 only for 99 PCMs ( they upgrade those to cux2 )

Sounds to me like they were playing with the computer since how could the power steering or a rattle have any connection to the odbII system

I have a CUX 2 you can have for 200.00

Dealer should charge you 40.00 to program for PATS. LMK and I'll Fed Ex to you.

Please hold it for me Reality just in case I may need it. I will let you know.

-Why in the hell do they even need to check my PCM for an EXHAUST leak in the first place?????????

- I brought my L to a different dealer 2 months ago and didn't even mention my chip. They had to do a PCM test because my truck kept shutting down and it was cause I neede a new IAC and a intake gasket. My truck was FINE when they tested it. Why I didn't bring it back there is my own fault but I have a copy of the written ticket from there too to prove they ran a PCM and I was fine.

I don't hate Ford...I hate this dealer. They're just tryin to cover there asses for their mistake.

No to crap on ya but although i agree a rattle has nothing to do with comnputer but you SHOULD know better then to drop a truck off with a chip in it period.

You are right but ...................dont trust anyone,Always take the chip out.
