Oil in intake can be fixed with Rice!

The oil in our intakes is not a new problem. The ricer's have had this problem for awhile also, they have products called "Oil Catch Cans". The best one I have seen so far is made by GReddy. I have ordered one for $85 and plan on powdercoating it black so it is hidden in the engine compartment. The billet box has 2 hose fittings, one for the oil/air entering and the other for just air existing. The ricer's seem to have good results with this product. The other nice thing about the product is the hoses are a semi-clear so you can easily monitor if oil is getting back into the upper intake. There is a sight glass on the GReddy Catch Can that tells when the container need empting. I plan on installing a brass valve on the bottom of my catch can and reattaching it the pcv valve so all I have to do is open the valve to let the oil back into the engine. My EV-98 PCV Valve came with a plastic fitting that alows me to attach two hoses and this is where I will be installing the return oil hose.

I will be installing this in my truck next week and will get back to you on how well it works. I am pretty sure it will be "THE FIX" we are all looking for.

Also as a side note, this unwanted oil/air mixture on alot of the import boards is blamed for detonation. So my thinking is, if you get a larger pulley this causes more unwanted oil in the intake thus causing detonation.
If you stop the oil, will you also stop detonation with larger pullies? '

Here is a site where you can check out the 3 types of catch cans available.

You are correct it is the 9mm, the 15 is huge.
A helpful individual on the NLOC board has informed me that the GReddy can needs to be baffled, here is his post.

A little on the catch cans you have listed.....coming from a "Ricer".
The Greddy and Cusco cans are not baffled. So when the oil enters the can, it has nothing but the sides of the can to catch on to. So you need to add baffles to the inside of the can. The way we "Ricers" accomplish this is by adding either Steel wool, loosly packed. Or by adding the Green 3M Scrubby pads to the inside. They work quite effectively! Either can, the Cusco or Greddy are very well constructed, but they don't come with a whole hell of a lot of hose. So you might have to invest in some additional lengths of hose. Just really depends on where you want to mount the can.

As for putting a drain in the bottom of the can. It's a very good idea. But don't drain it back into your oil pan. This oil is pretty much shot and adding it back into the oil system will not benefit you in anyway. It's better just to drain it into a can or something that you either turn in for oil testing, if that's your thing, or dispose of it properly.

Yes oil is a cause of detonation. Adding oil into your intake is like adding an octane inhibitor. It reduces the octane rating in your fuel and doesn't allow for complete and effective combustion. Hence detonation....

Take this for what it's worth to you, but the one thing I'm serious about.....Not all import drivers are "RICERS"!
