Procedure for checking ATF

I just installed the JDM line mod valve and Ford Racing aluminum transmission pan in my 03 Lightning. Can someone describe the correct procedure for checking the transmission fluid level?

I believe I overfilled it. I added 9 quarts. If that is the case, are there any tricks to draining just a little fluid?

Thanks,
Joe

if the pan has a drain bolt just drain a little out. to check lever start motor, cycle the gears from park to 1st and back slowly. on a level surface leave it running and check the dipstick like you would the oil.

Please excuse my ignorance…

I leave the transmission in park? (I have heard to leave it in Drive w/ the parking brake on)

Should fluid be in the hot or cold range on the dip stick?

Thanks

This may or may not help you. You'll see why I say that when you read the article:

Fluid levels on the dipstick should show below the "do not add" after the vehicle has been driven for a while and is "hot". So check your fluid after driving around a bit...making sure it's hot.

On another note, my dipstick shows the fluid at a little over the hot into the "do not add"....is this bad? I dont think it's much..a fraction of a quart but i've heard too much fluid will actually trap the heat in more and/or foam and froth to hinder transfer?
