URGENT Fuel Filter Help!!

I'm in the middle of a fuel filter change, and I can't get one of the lines off. I was able to just pull off the line coming from the rear of the truck by hand, but I can't get the line going to the front. I have the metal scissor looking fuel disconnect tool, but how the hell do I use it??

Ok you open the tool and clamp it over the little metal thing jutting out of the fuel filter. Then slide it along and make the protrusions go into the line thats attached to your truck. Once you jam it in there good, wiggle the line off the filter. Should be it.

Is the tool supposed to clear the ridge on the filter? I've tried to do it like you said but it hits the ridge and won't go over. Is it supposed to?

Put tool on line.
slide line as close towards filter as possible.
slide tool towards the line.
pull line off of filter.

repeat for other side.

One last question, should both lines click back into place on the filter, or just the front one??

One end of our filter seems to be a bit "over-engineered" ...
I was told that it is really hard to get one of them off

Well the back one never did "click" onto the filter. I can see the ridge on the filter right in the opening of the line. I think it was like that before I messed with it though. I was able to take that side off by hand without the tool. Should I worry?

YES! You must get both connectors/collars to 'click' for them to be locked on right. If you turn the key to 'on' so that the pump runs, I'll bet you have fuel spitting out of the rear of the filter without the 'click'.

I think I may cut those suckers off next time and just use two small clamps.

has anyone done that yet ????

I always have trouble getting one or the other off too. It seems that the 'collar' unlocks with the tool inserted but there is still alot of friction just wiggling/pulling them off...................

Rob, I wouldn't try clamps as the tube(s) is so small in diameter that I don't think you could get a good seal with clamps. Plus, there is the possibility the clamps would wear thru the hose(s).
