Those of you who have had this issue repaired under warranty, please respond. They ordered foam cushioning, but not the cover? I asked if this is happening on a truck with only 11,500 miles, what am I going to do if this happens again in another 11,000 (my 3/36 expires 6/10). They said their repair is warranted for 12mo/12,000mi,but predict that won;t help? Service writer says no changes or updates to cushion (but then he said he's never seen a L with this prob?), but the tech says cushion was redesigned? Any 01-03 owners confirm this? While I'm 6'1" 221 lbs, much bigger guys than me are driving thes trucks without this prob? Thanks for any input.

 

After getting the L back, the first thing you should do is cut the wire out of the seat. I did, and has worked great without it. All I did was to fill the poket in the seat cusion with some additional foam. Unless you do this, or wrap the wire with foam, it will eventually work it's way back into the seat. Bad Design!

 

I had this same problem @ about 9000 miles. I took it to the dealer and the service writer advised that he had seen this problem on other F150's.
He said that the cushion would shift and then the metal loop supporting the side of the seat would push through. He said that the cushion needed to be replaced (but he didn't say anything about a new design).

They had a local upholstery shop do the work after getting the cushion from Ford.
I went to pick up my truck and they hadn't done anything about the wear thru on the fabric. I guess I hadn't been clear with what was going to be done. I insisted that the fabric should be replaced also and so they took another round of pictures.
The next day they agreed to replace the worn panel and ordered that section. Again they had the upholstery shop do the repair. They did a good job.
But I don't think it will hold for the long term.

I have heard that some guys just break of the loop off, but I am kinda hesitant.

I am sure it is going to take a custom fix for a complete remedy.

 

When you replace the foam, first have them, you or a seat cover place glue a piece of Burlapp under the foam where the metal bar sits.

That will keep the metal bar from ripping into the foam. I had a friend who owns a auto seat cover do that for mine, and never had any problems.
