To me when you put a chip on your truck without dynoing it and checking your air/fuel rations flying blind. There’s no way a tuner can tell what your ratios will be unless your checked on a dyno.

That is true but I also feel that it is brought on buy ourselves. We all want to go faster and quicker so the chips are getting more aggressive in natural to SATIFY yourselves.Look at the first chips out how may of those blew motors up?I think we are getting greedy in that we want more out of them but there is only so much that can be done without actually running the vehicle. The tuners program a chip that works in some vehicles but might not work in all of them.Due to the 'stack up' of tolerances in resistors and such.So I feel that if you want to go and get the 'latest greatest chip' then be willing to possible pay the price for it.I personally would much rather lose a few hp's to have a safer tune than be on the side of the road looking at an oil trail.Believe me I know I have been there.the chip I have now I feel is the safest out there for my needs and maybe I am not getting all I can out of it but I also know I am finishing the events.Stan

The conclusion i came to is when i get my chip i will have 5 grand in the bank as insurance to back my purchase. that way if anything does happen, (if done correctly and dyno tuned it shouldnt) I wont have to whine and cry about it. I will put in my new built engine and be on my merry way.

Honestly, i dont think you drew the right conclusion. Your engine is tuned to do a certain thing from ford. A chip does the same thing but its more specific to your truck. You can put a 4#er on without a chip and still runs ford program, but i would'nt because ford's program is generic and not tuned to each vehicle, and definately not tuned to any mod you may add. I would say a dyno tuned chipped done by a good tuner is just as safe as fords tune and probably more safe if you do any additional mods. This is from the point of view that warrenty isnt a issue. After seeing Paul @ REM dyno tune my truck (w/mods listed). I am glad I went that route. He was able to adjust and adjust things til they were right on and safe. And good friggin grief is it a different truck!

I'd highly recommend getting a dyno tune from a lightning specialist as I did. I check the plugs occaisonaly and they always look good.

Two things you should note:

A properly tuned chip should NOT harm your truck. It will NOT cause the usual list of problems we have (blown plugs, oil in intake, leaking heads, etc.)

If you're worried about Ford's policy of voiding warranties on ALL chipped trucks, you have two venues to consider; you can wait for the Diablo Predator to come out or you can talk to Mark@BOP (or others) and have them reflash your entire PCM. The downside to the latter is that you will not be able to drive until he gets it back to you.

There are alternatives to a chip and they are quite promising...
