Thanks for the quick reply, Rob. As for the oil filter, I still am undecided on what filter to go with. I'm also looking for the part# of the Napa Gold for the '03L. Did my first oil change at 1400 miles yesterday and used the FL-820S. I may just stick with the FL-820s from now on. Will be using Mobile 1 5W-30 after say 3,000 mi. Opting for the 5W-30 as I weekly pull a trailer with 3 Atv's. Geez, that vertical down oil filter is appreciated by me. Just my gut keeps me from sliding easily under the truck but I did manage to slide under without my creeper...

Another option is the K&N Gold, Part no. 2010, I've been using it for 2 years now and I'm happy with it, $9.95 at Advanced Auto Parts. John H.

Question

Just bought my '03 L on 5/2/03. I have one quick question: Where is the oil filter? I haven't crawled underneath the truck to look (it has rained nearly every day since I got it), but I don't see it, and the salesman had no idea, either!

It's in the normal spot Jim03Lightning,
On the bottom in the back "Lower Drivers Side"
It's a normal quick oil change, watch that Plug, mine is already screwed up (over tightened I guess ?)

Save your money and use either the Motorcraft or the Purolator Plus filter.

I have decided to go with the Motorcraft FL-820S which is considered an aok filter. Can get them for under $3.00 each locally.

Crawl under the front end of the truck from the drivers side (if you can squeeze under there) and at the bottom of the engine the filter sits vertically and is easy, easy to get to. Great vertical positioning allows you to prefill the new filter and then just lift it up into position and tighten. To get to the drain plug on the oil pan crawl under the passenger side front. I had to suck it in (thee gut) to get under there but did.. One of the easier trucks to do an oil change on I might say.

Thanks, guys, for the answers about the oil filter location. The reason I asked is because a friend of mine has an "Anniversary Edition" (I think that's what it is) F150 with the 4.6L, and he says his oil filter is actually in the driver's side wheel well. Since I coudln't readily see the L's filter, I thought it might also be mounted in a similar location.

Use the FL-820s, it's a good filter and what Ford recommends. You can get them from Wal-Mart for $2.99.

Why pay more?
