Thumbs up trans oil change

I am going to be installing the ftvb 4x4 pan and changing trans
oil to mobil 1 soon, and I have a couple questions.
How do I drain the converter and oil cooler? is there a drain plug on the converter? and how much oil will the entire system take
to refill and where is a good place to buy mobil1 syn trans oil?
Thanks again to everyone on this great site.

You, alone can't get all of it out--even if you drain the t/c.

I took mine(and 15 qts. of Redline D4 synthetic ATF) to a 'quik-lube' shop and had them pump out the old while pumping in the new ATF behind it. When the 'old' comes out 'new', you're finished. Just use the Mercon to refill what comes out with the pan and then drive it to a shop.

14-16 qts.

Mine cost $45(just the labor, not the ATF) if I remember correctly--at least that's close..........

For those with a drain plug, can't you just unscrew it and let everything pour out without getting it pumped? We did that yesterday installing new vbodies and refilled with about 7 qts or so and it was full.
