Questions about my new Magnaflow

catback 15714. Ordered from Larry in classifieds for $310, plush shipping. Had Grand Muffler, ocal shop recommended by local guys do install for $85! A problem, however--- he didn't use supplied clamps, but welded, or wouldn't "guarantee job". Tips are fairly well centered in valance with about 1/2" clearance on all sides which is good. EXCEPT, those beautiful Magnaflow tips are set back to far--nearly flush with outside edge of valance. Believe I've seen pictures on here that show tips protruding much more showing that Magnaflow logo? If so, how about some pics?
Considering welding has been done, any way to move those tips further out without having major probelms? Thanks for any info!

BTW the sound is incredible, and even feels like more power, but might be my imagination? Am sure it isn't 18hp they cleaim?

Jake: I don't think you'll have enogh 'play' in the hangers, etc. to get the tip exposure you want. Probably have to pay to have the pipes cut and re-mounted.

My exhaust guy made sure mine were where I wanted them fore-n-aft, top-to-bottom, and amount of exposure(clearing the valance) before he welded the joints.

Hey, you could drive an hour and a half and I'll fix you up

Dan

Dan, might just take

you up on your offer! Couple of old farts hangin together! If I understand you correctly, they would cut off tips, add "x" amount of pipe for optimum tip exposure, then reweld tips back on? Wonder what this would cost?

Guys with new Magnaflow cat, how about some pics of tips in valence? Thanks!

You might not have to add piping and just have it moved around and adjusted...

Jake: If you're serious, give me a call at work(1-800-926-2136) and I'll try to get you an appointment(good techs are busy!) that meets with your time to get down here. Hale, give me a call whether you're serious or not .

If you look at how its designed, youre never going to get the tips 100% aligned in the center without adjusting. This is why it doesnt cause fitament problems with traction devices. If you want to manually correct this, have a muffer shop cut the band that connects the two tips together, bend the pipes inward, then reweld. Im surprised you didnt see this when you had it welded, which i feel was a mistake on your part. If this unit wasnt welded, you could of easily adjusted the tips to your preference by losening the mid pipe on the passenger side.

Flying ****

I paid to have this installed at Grand Muffler which many of domestic & import guys recommend. The installer (co owner) had to make a number of adjustments and said it wasn't a "perfit fit, but hardly any really are"! He also read instructions, as I did. I will consider your "manual fix" solution, but since this is not my profession, I wouldn't know to look for what you're referring to.! ****, you should have pics of system on your truck, so I can see ideal fit?

Hey Jake,
I had the cat-back installed this morning and the tips are flush with the valence also. The installer couldn't move it further out. Maybe I'll get some longer tips later on. I like the sound but I can hear a little fluttering when I give it some gas. Is this an exhaust leak or will this go away.

Chim, appreciate your response

about your fit! Guess that confirms it--tips/pipes are NOT long enough! Instead of getting new tips, I'd get pipe "extension" then reweld thos sweet Magnaflow logoed tips? Not sure about fluttering you're talking about? Happens when you give it partial throttle from stop, WOT, or? Give me a few more details and I'll try and listen for it. Wonder if gasgets are needed?

Yeah, the fluttering comes on at partial throttle from a stop and then goes away. It's very low but noticeble.

Question for the guys with the cat back in, are the tip the stock length or shorter? I have a magnaflow cat back coming so I'm interested in this. Thanks , Todd
