Lightning vs. supra
Lightning vs. supra
HI all, I just registered to this forum because I need some help in
http://www.ford-trucks.com
these people are bashing on Lightnings and I need some help because I don't know nearly as much as you guys do about them,
it would be appricitated greatly if you would tell them your dyno results, 1/4 times, and such.
I would talk but I can't back my self up I, I have a 88' Eddie Bauer Bronco with the 5.8MPI, needs some major tuning to hang with you guys!... yeah !, I'll just stick to off roading! lol
I am by no means tying to start a fight here, so no bashing just tell them there wrong...
Oh and the thread is under "Ford vs The Competition" and the thread is called "Supra vs Lightning"

It appears the purpose of your posting over in the other forum was only for argument. All the posts I read on that thread were pretty civil. No reason to go over there and try and cause trouble. Supras are fast cars and Lightnings are fast trucks. Let's just leave it as that. As for comparisons, they are done all the time in this forum. I get tired of the "yea but he only weighs 3500 lbs", or "but he's running a v8, and I only have a 6 cylinder". Speed is speed, but there is much more that goes into a car or truck to create the cost of a vehicle. Some are better at straightline 1/4 mile speeds, others are better at top speed, while others handle awesome and can tear you a new one in the curves. Who cares. It's all about performance and I respect any car, whether stock or modded, that has a performance edge over the majority regardless of cost.

I own a Lightning and will gladly admit that the Supra TTs are faaaast cars. Easily modable too!
If it came down to a brand new Supra TT or a brand new Lightning, I would've chosen the former without much hesitance.

Yup..............I saw nothing wrong with that thread either...............I can pretty much guarantee you that the top 5 dream garages in this site would be:
Lightning/Vette
Lightning/F-body
Lightning/Cobra
Lightning/Supra
and in no particular order............................This of course not counting unaffordable dream super cars..................I was keeping it under $100K combined!!

If I read correctly, there were actually fewer Supras made, bet. 93 and 98 (TT's of course) than there are 99-03 L's.............actually, SUBSTANTIALLY fewer!!!

I didn't read that whole thread but it seemed okay to me. FYI Supra's with just the very basic mods (bpu) are pretty fast. Mine ran 7.7 in the 1/8th at 94 mph. (My L is faster
). Modded Supras are very fast. A local guy just ran a traction limited 10.8 in the quarter at 136 mph!
MiamiWhiteSVT-L,
I think your prices were right on a year ago (when I sold mine) but not now. Prices are definitely dropping, check out eBay or the Supra forums and you will be surprised how "cheap" Supras aren't even selling. I think it's because of the 350Zs, EVOs, STIs, RX8s, etc all coming out now making the Supra look like a old model. When the MKV Supra hit's this fall in the $30K range I bet the MKIV prices will really drop. I'm waiting until then to pick up another one.
As far as quantity... there were 11,239 Supras produced in the 6 years between 1993 and 1998. 6977 of those were turbos, 4038 of the turbos were 6-speeds. About how many Lightnings are produced in a single year.

Supra's have always been my favorite car and I've wanted one for as long as I can remember and I did tons of research for and watched the market for them for a good 2 years.. however when I was finally able to buy, it was either $25k for a '93 - '94 75k+ mi. supra or a '02 6k mi Lightning. I chose the L. However, I've made it a point to own a supra one day, no matter how far down the line it is.. hopefully just a few years.

After reading the first few posts on your "ricer" thread I'll have to disagree with that. It seems that the only thing you're trying to do is start a fight. Trust me I hate what ricer's do to their cars more than anybody else. I'm a 20 yr old asian and whenever I go into auto shops to buy stuff for the L, ppl automatically assume I drive a civic, integra, blah blah whatever. I even went into a Harley shop looking once for that "Blue Job" stuff for the tips.. hahaha trust me, everybody was looking at me like "the f**k you doing here?".
I'll agree most ricers don't know what their doing, but some do. I've seem some sleeper hatchback CRX's that run 11's all day. I may hate how their car looks, but I still have respect for someone who takes care of their car. Yes, there are some riced-out ugly a$$ supras on the road. But there are also a lot of extremely fast supra's out there running 10's with a single turbo. Personally I think that the majority of TT Supra's are on average faster than the majority of Lightning's. The supra isn't rice.
You ask the ppl on this board to defend the L, but I dont see any bashing on the L in that thread. I saw that the post of the Supra owner was edited but as it is he has nothing but praise for the truck. The only person that I see bashing on other people is you my friend. I dont know you, nor do I want to know you, but you come off as an a$$ in your posts.

Didn't see too much bashing, just the typical misinformation and stereotypes going around.
I doubt the MKIV prices will drop much, if at all when the MKV is released.
While nobody knows for sure what the new MKV will be capable of, if it stickers in the low to mid 30s I don't think it will be comparable to the MKIV.
Not many MKIV owners will want to downgrade to an all motor inline or possibly V6 which the MKV is rumored to have.
I've yet to run my L, but I'm planning to this weekend. Bone stock and on 20s, so I'll be happy if I'm anywhere in the 13s.
I've run a 12.0@121 w/ a 2.0 60' with my BPU + FMIC 6-speed Supra. 1600' elevation and traction limited, but hoping for 11s soon.
69 roadster...nice 1/8, how'd you do in the 1/4?

I've only taken the Lightning to the quarter mile track once as well. It did a little better than Supra. Drag racing is so much easier with an automatic
