My first Lightning and my first post

Well, howdy all. I just bought my first Lightning on Monday the 26th. I have always liked the trucks but had too many other projects going to buy one. I have one question. The salesman at the dealership said something about the trucks computer "opening up" at 500 miles. He said it runs restricted for the first 500 to allow for a break in period. Is this true?

Welcome to the club, I havent heard anything about a break in program. Get a chip installed and then youll see some tire smoking fun for sure. I could never get any of the ones I test drove to burn out, the chip did wonders

Why the 'sour pu$$'? J/K!

Here's what one brand new 01 L did--no waiting for the computer to release its power: https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...ight=full+tank

I don't know if there is really a break-in program on the chip but I can say right at 500 miles my truck did change. At first all I noticed was the exhaust tips but after a few weeks I also noticed a power increase too. Someone mentioned rings seating and I think thats a very good possibility but its odd that several other people also noticed changes at 500miles, and I had NO change on the stick during the time. with the amount of black crap on my tips every day you would think it would have shown up or I would have seen smoke or something.

See my post here:

I talked with several people about it just because I was curious but never got a strait answer.

Just know you will enjoy your truck more and more as time passes!

Enjoy!
